Sullia: Man arrested for sexually assaulting minor girl

Sullia, Oct 6: Police on Wednesday, October 5, have arrested a person identified as Sunil, a resident of Maaderi of Nellyadi village on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

The police have arrested the accused based on a complaint filed by the victim's father. The girl who is studying in her tenth standard at a private school in Nojibaltila, was staying in her grandfather's house while the complainant (the girl's father) was staying in another house. The girl's mother had left their home about five years back and had since not returned.

The accused used to visit the rubber farm on work that is situated close to the girl's house. On the pretext of striking a conversation with the girl's grandfather the accused had asked for the mobile number of the girl. When the girl refused to give her number, the accused took her number from the girl's grandmother and used to call her while she was on her way to school or while she was returning home.

Once he forced her to get into his bike and dropped her at the marketplace. He told her to call him back in the evening. On September 8 in the evening, the accused visited the house where the girl was staying, got her grandfather drunk and forced himself on her and raped her. The accused threatened the girl with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone. Later on September 26, he again visited the girl's house and sexually assaulted her, according to the police complaint.

The police arrested the accused under Pocso and produced him before a court of law.
