Bantwal, Sep 29: A scooter rider was seriously injured and admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru following an accident between the bus and the scooter that he was driving in Jakribettu junction.

The injured is identified as Mohammed Suhail (40), a resident of Beltangady. The accident occurred after Suhail's visit to Bantwal downmarket place and when he was returning to Belthangady.

Locals and witnesses said the accident occurred at the Jakribettu junction while crossing onto the Dharmasthala road in a hurry. It is said the crossing is unscientifically designed that it is an accident-prone zone where many lives have been lost.

Motorists and commuters feel and demand that road humps which are erected  unnecessarily on some roads should be necessarily erected in such accident-prone spots.

The Melkaar traffic police visited the accident spot and have registered a case.
