Dear Mahesh Kamath..If Kumble was too busy playing cricket,Can he forget his birth place ? May be one or two times he visited Kumble in 20years.Even cricketer Ravi Shashtri forgot Mangalore which is his home town.He started visiting his home town recently.(that too offer prayers in temple when he became father of a baby girl after more than 12 years).

I do not think Kumble kept a low profile about Kumbla. It is rather that he was too busy playing cricket. However his name itself indicated this.

The cricket loving indian fans can forget these "TRIO BOWLING LEGENDS"of Karnataka?(Anil Kumble,Javagal Sreenath&Venkatesh Prasad)Definitely not.Kudos to the people of Kumble Grama Panchayath for honoring such a Gentleman and we are proud of Anil as,he is from the soil of Kumble.Anil should be a role model for the present generation and as well as for our present cricketers like Yuvraj singh and those involved in the mauling incident of the pub in West Indies.

A thorough gentleman and admired even by the opposition teams. The only place I can recall that he gave his piece of mind was, when he was deeply hurt and said that only one team was playing in the spirit of the game. The opposition team clearly cheated and "managed" to win instead of a fair draw. In another place, while he could have got a wicket, he bowled in such a manner as to not to get a wicket, so that Kapil Dev could get that wicket and Kapil did get that wicket. The whole world knew that it was a sacrifice from Anil Kumble. Great cricketer, great man. I am sure, he will be generous and give back to cricket his immense talent and wealth of cricket in the years to come, so that youngsters would benefit from him and bring glory to our nation. May God Bless you Anil.

Finally, Hometown honoured one of the best cricketers of the world !!Surprisingly,Anil Kumble also kept low profile about his hometown. He was known as Kannadiaga by Malayalis !! The reason might be he is not from Cochin or Trivandrum and from very small town "Kumble" which is close to Karnataka border & totally ignored by Kerala Government.Anil Kumble who is better than Ganguly and Dravid got captaincy at the end of his cricket career. Now Home town honoured him after his retirement. Is it a co-incident ?

    Just refresh your cricket memory
1.Kumble got 10 wickets in one innings against Pakistan in Delhi test match and India won.
2.Kumble hit a super Century against England in Lords Test
3.Kumble bowled with broken jaw in West Indies and took Brian Lara's wicket. That shows his commitment to the game.
4.Under Kumble Captainy,India won 50 overs ODI series in Australia. No other Indian captain did it.
Anil Kumble..Go EAST Go WEST..You are the BEST !

I had a chance to meet Kumble while on air, in fact, no one in the flight could recognize there is an Indian legend boarded in the flight. I was so surprised with the character kumble , such a simple down to earth person, who had kind of welcome to proceed by the airline checking officials after immigration checks but he refused and passed thru the final security checks trying open his briefcase!! Just wow!! Officials little embarrassed though (they might def had instructions about the legends travel) but they now know rules are made for all! I wonder if any English legend could travel the way he does!! Kumble must be a role model for the youth in India without any doubt. HE IS A LEGEND AND I LOVE HIM
