Nagpur: Fr Aquin Noronha OP elected as rector of St Charles Major Seminary

Nagpur, Jan 22: Fr Aquin Noronha OP has been elected as the rector of St Charles Major Seminary, Nagpur. He hails from Shankerpura (Pangla).

Fr Aquin Noronha comes from a family of six children. Fr Aquin has been the prior at Mt. Saint Dominic Church, Ashoknagar until recently. Presently, he is serving as the parish priest of St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar, Mangaluru.

Fr Aquin is also a lecturer in church history at St Charles Seminary, Nagpur, as well as St Joseph’s Major Seminary, Jeppu, Mangaluru, having done his licentiate at Santa Croche in Rome. He worked in South Africa as missionary for 5 years.

Fr Aquin is a good teacher, preacher, musician and singer. He will take over as the new rector of St Charles seminary from the new academic year, June 2021.
 
St Charles Seminary is an tnter-diocesan seminary which belongs to the Archdiocese of Nagpur and under the care of the Dominican priests of India.It was in 1959 that the Irish Dominicans came to India to take charge of the seminary built by His Grace Mgr Eugene D’Souza, the then Archbishop of Nagpur.

The seminary has formed more than thousand priests and 16 bishops some of them are archbishops. Presently, there are over 286 seminarians out of which 169 residents and 117 non-residents are studying in the institution. Seminarians are coming from about 42 dioceses of north and central India and from some 11 religious congregations.
