Udupi, Dec 16: A meeting chaired by deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha in the DC office on Wednesday decided to obtain feasibility report for constructing marina in Padukere beach.

As there are natural islands at Padukere seaside, a marina can be constructed in 3.69 km area after building breakwater between 1.66 km and 2 km. The deputy commissioner asked for the obtaining of the feasibility report from CWPRS organization of Pune and asked Coastal Development Authority to subsequently prepare a detailed project report in this connection.

As there are no marinas anywhere else in the country, the proposed marina in Padukere will be identified as one of the global tourist spots providing ample job opportunities and important contribution to the growth of tourism in the state. “The project will be prepared without damaging the environment and without violating CRZ regulations,” he said.

“Boats of various models, tourism ships and entertainment boats can anchor due to the marina project. Income can be derived by constructing floating hotels, restaurants, houses and complexes.
If the feasibility report and detailed project reports are received before February, it will be possible to obtain necessary approval for the construction in the next budget,” said MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

Coastal Development Authority president Mattaru Rathnakar Hegde assured all the possible cooperation in this connection. Goa’s Amel Marine Tech's Milinda Prabhu explained the practical details of its implementation.

Additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Kundapur subdivision officer Raju, tourism department assistant director Somashekar Baryappa Kamarooramane, convenor Amith, various department officials and heads of tourism organizations were present.

Marina is a unique project that is not found anywhere else in the country. The only marina is in Cochin which can accommodate international boats and tourist ships. Foreign ships proceed to South Asia via the Arabian Sea and anchor there for various reasons. Nearly 4,000 ships will proceed on this way. The marina proposed in Padukere will cost approximately Rs 800 crores.
