Bengaluru temple priest arrested for raping 10-year-old

Bengaluru, Nov 26 (IANS): A 61-year-old priest in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at his daughter's home, located within the temple premises, police said on Thursday.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Venkataramanappa, a resident of Chikkaballapura, who was looking after the temple near Devanahalli in the absence of his son-in-law.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Venkataramanappa saw the girl playing outside the temple and allegedly lured her by promising to give her sweets, a police officer said.

"This incident came to light as when the girl went inside the priest's house, the girl's grandmother came in search of the girl. A woman selling flowers outside the temple told her that the girl was with the priest. When the grandmother called her granddaughter, the girl came running outside the house. The angry grandmother immediately filed a complaint with us... we arrested him there only," Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East, C.K. Baba told IANS.

The DCP added that based on CCTV camera footage in the temple premises and the flower vendor's statement, Venkataramanappa was arrested and booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Police were awaiting a medical report and based on it, some more sections might be applied in this case, he said.

Kudos to the flower vendor who saw the 10-year-old girl being lured into the temple by the priest. Otherwise, anything could have happened. That priest should be severely punished and jailed for the maximum period.

In India raping has been given a free reign. So rapists are taking advantage of this free passage from the BJP govt.

This is nothing to get shocked or surprised. BJP has the historic record of sympathising with rapists, garlanding them and eventually inducting them into the party. The party members even take protest march in support of the rapists.

So let this be like a eye opener to all those psuedo nationalists who keep on harping over the case of Kerala Bishop Franco.

That's factually incorrect. As per records, highest number of rapes and crimes happen in Congress/Communist ruled states. Sukanya case in which a youth leader of a political party ( Non BJP) was involved was buried without a trace. Franco is only tip of the Iceberg, you scratch further and there will be an avalanche. Go check the crime records in the states ruled by your Ilk. And D'Souza, for your own good, stop reading portals like Wire, Caravan, Huffington Post, etc... that will help you heal. Get well soon dear and God bless!!

Some people talks about banning polygemy eventhough the percentage is almost equal to zero.

But nobody knows population increasing some how from illicit relation too, most of them from Ashrams and from devadasi practice. Though widely believed to have been abandoned decades ago, the practice has not died down completely in several parts of the country.

And one more observation I would make about Almeida is that..

Almeida was very angry at Arnab's arrest and most probably would oppose the arrest of the above rapist too. But I am 100% sure is very happy that Fr Stan Swamy is arrested.

All rapists, after serving sentence, should be chemically castrated, which is effective for 3 years. It is being practised in some states in USA and now Pakistan is thinking in that direction. Those who commit rape on minors, second time and gang rape should be made to undergo orchiectomy that is removal of both testes. Unless this is done, rapes will continue. There should not be any mercy.

It cannot be done in India as most of them are MPs or MLAs and rest are holding positions of power, all rapists should be castrated or shot in encounter who ever he is.
