Kundapur: Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra inspects Trasi, Maravanthe beach

Kundapur, Nov 25: “Kerala model port work is completed at Maravanthe. The state government has reserved Rs 85 crore with the intention to technically develop the port further. The tender will be invited and the work will begin as soon as possible. The foundation ceremony will have central and state ministers of fisheries,” said Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra.

He was speaking after visiting Maravanthe port and holding discussions with port department officials and viewing the blueprint of the works.

“Though the centre and the state are facing financial constraints due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Centre has released sufficient funds for the benefit of the country and for the development of villages. The Centre has released a comprehensive package under Jal Jeevan Mission for Byndoor Vidhan Sabha and special package for the fishermen under Atmanirbhar project even during the current complex conditions. There will be special emphasis given to fisheries and tourism keeping in mind the all-round progress of fishermen,” he said.

Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty said, "The government has released Rs 85 crore for the second stage of works at Maravanthe port, Rs 12 crore for the reconstruction of Gangolli jetty, the fisheries port and Koderi port development. Rs 550 crores have been approved for the drinking water project,” he said.

“Rs 5 crore are released from the tourism department for the development of Trasi-Maravanthe beach. The amount will be utilized for necessary facilities and progress of the beach. A blueprint of the works that can be taken up in the beach should be prepared with attempts to provide facilities to the tourists,” said MP B Y Raghavendra.

He visited Trasi-Maravanthe seashore on Tuesday and inspected the works taken up by the department of tourism.

“A unique breakwall is constructed through ADB to prevent sea erosion. A project to form a beautiful beach using the funds from the tourism department should be prepared,” he said.

Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty gave suggestions. Udupi tourism department assistant director Somashekar B K, district tourism consultant Amith Kumar and ADB officer Gopala Naik gave details of the works. Chief Minister’s special officer Rajappa, technical advisor Ramesh, Kundapur subdivision officer Raju K, Byndoor tahsildar Basappa Poojary, port department superintendent engineer Chandrashekar, executive engineer Manchegowda, BJP Byndoor mandala president Deepak Kumar Shetty, Byndoor taluk panchayat president Mahendra Poojary, district panchayat members Shobha G Puthran, Babu Shetty, Shankar Poojary, taluk panchayat members, party leaders and others were present.

MP B Y Raghavendra, MLA B M Sukumar Shetty and Rajappa were also felicitated on behalf of the local fishermen.
