Delhi Police conducts raids to nab killer seen in CCTV footage

New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS): The Delhi Police was carrying out multiple raids on Wednesday to arrest the prime accused in the murder of a man, Vikas Mehta, after the CCTV footage of the crime went viral.

In the CCTV footage the attacker is seen firing multiple shots at Mehta and later clicking a picture on his mobile when he falls to the ground.

According to the police, Mehta, a gangster, was a member of the Pradeep Solanki gang involved in extortion, murders, kidnappings, etc. The police said that Mehta was gunned down by a person identified as Kamal Gahlot on October 22 allegedly on his father Pawan Gahlot's instruction to avenge his uncle's murder. As per the police, Pawan Gahlot had informed his son about Mehta's presence in Uttam Nagar.

In the 18-second video clip, the killer, wearing a yellow T-shirt with a white towel wrapped around his face, is seen chasing a man with a gun in his hand. The killer then fires at the man, who is walking backwards with a red helmet in his hand while looking at his attacker.

The bullet hits him and he falls to the ground. The suspect walks back, only to return and pump at least two more bullets into the victim's face. The killer takes out a cellphone from his trouser pocket and clicks the bleeding victim's photograph before fleeing the crime scene, the footage shows.

"Earlier, in a statement, a witness had stated that Praveen Gahlot, who was the brother of Pawan, was murdered by Vikas Dalal in May 2019. Dalal was also killed during the cross firing by the police. Dalal was a member of the Pradeep Solanki gang and the deceased Vikas Mehta was also a member of the same gang. Pawan Gahlot suspected that Vikas Mehta was also involved in the conspiracy to murder his brother Praveen Gahlot," said R.P. Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Pawan Gahlot has been arrested, while his son, Kamal Gahlot, who was the alleged shooter seen in the CCTV footage, is on the run.
