Mangaluru: Monthi Fest celebrations held at St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar

Mangaluru, Sep 9: The faithful at St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar celebrated the birth anniversary of mama Mary with devotion and zeal.

The day started with the rosary followed by a procession to the altar by the main celebrant, Fr Sunil Lobo, Fr Aquin Noronha, parish priest, Fr Royston Lobo, assistant parish priest along with other co-celebrants to the eucharistic altar.

The newly harvested corn was blessed by Fr Royston Lobo followed by floral offerings to the blessed infant Mary by the children and the elders to the singing of traditional hymns 'Sokkod Sangatha Meliam' and 'Moriek Hogolsiam'.

Fr Sunil Lobo in his homily stressed upon giving place and honour to Mary in our families to transform our families after the example of the holy family of Nazareth. St John Paul ll says joining hands together united in prayer in families can create the atmosphere of the family of Nazareth namely the example of an ideal family.


Parish priest, Fr Aquin thanked the congregation for coming out in large numbers for participating in the celebration and making the feast more meaningful. He also thanked the parish council members for their all round support in conducting the service nicely and meaningfully.

The parish priest appreciated the melodious singing of the choir and the instrumentalists for creating a festive meaningful mood. Blessed corn was presented to the Pirjent and the main sponsors of the celebration by the main celebrant.

After the mass, new corn was distributed by the gurkars to the congregation. People exchanged greetings to one another after the mass.
