Chandigarh court asks L&T official to join probe into forgery charges

Chandigarh, Sep 4 (IANS): Dismissing the anticipatory bail application of Uma Charan Rath, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of L&T Infrastructure Ltd, a Chandigarh court has directed him to join the investigation into cheating and forgery charges within 15 days.

Acting on the complaint of Sanjay Jain, a resident of Panchkula near here, the Economic Offences Wing of Chandigarh Police is investigating the case.

Jain, one of the promoters of the plush Elante Mall here, is a director of CSJ Infrastructure Ltd.

In a complaint on December 18, 2019, Jain had levelled allegations of cheating and forgery against the directors of L&T Infrastructure.

Rath was summoned to join the investigation on July 4, but he did not turn up, the police said.

He was summoned for the second time on August 28 to appear for questioning on September 2.

Instead of appearing, he filed the anticipatory and blanket bail plea in the court that was listed for hearing on Thursday.

His bail was opposed by the complainant's counsel Sumeet Abrol.

In his bail application, Rath, refuted all the charges and said he had no personal participation in other matters, except the finances of the company.

The court directed the police that if a case was registered against Rath, he should be given a week's notice before his arrest.
