Davanagere, Aug 14: In an inhuman gesture, the driver of an ambulance, noticing that a patient he was carrying in his vehicle for advanced treatment had breathed his last on the way, went back after depositing the mortal remains of the patient by the roadside. This incident happened at Madanabavi in Bonnali in the district on Thursday August 13.
The deceased has been identified as Doddappa (70), a resident of Arabagatte village. He had got himself admitted into the government hospital at Honnali at 11 am on Tuesday as he was unwell. As the doctors recommended him to be taken to Shivamogga for advanced treatment, an ambulance had been arranged.
Doddappa passed away when the ambulance was nearing Madanabavi. The driver thereafter unloaded the body, left it by the roadside and drove away his ambulance back to Honnali.
The villagers who came to know about the inhumane incident, held protest and demanded for the arrest of the ambulance driver. Taluk medical officer, tahsildar and other officials visited the spot.
