Mangaluru, Aug 14: Vice chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof P S Yadapadithaya, addressing a press meet here on Thursday August 13, said that the final semester examinations of the degree and postgraduate degree classes for the academic year 2019-20 will be held between September 16 and 30 as per the directions of the state government and University Grants Commission.

"Colleges have been allowed to hold online/offline classes in their respective colleges between September 1 and 12. At the same time, final semester student of degree courses have the option of appearing for their backlog subjects along with the current semester examinations," he explained.

Students who have so far not remitted their examination fee and not registered for the examination also can appear for the examination. Such students should hand over their requests in this connection to the respective college principals before August 17. They have to pay the examination fee before collecting marks cards after appearing for the examinations. In the case of students who have registered themselves for the final semester/final year and degree courses who have backlog subjects, they will be allowed in future by the university for appearing for special examinations without the need to pay fee," he said.

If there is attendance shortage for the current semester, steps will be taken to consider corona lockdown period as deemed to attend, he stated.

Prof Yadapadithaya also said that for the benefit of students from states like Bhutan, Meghalaya, Manipur and others, there are plans to enter into understanding with the universities of those states and conduct examinations in centres located there.

During this pandemic it is difficult to give exams. For people coming in bus which is always rush. Taking public transport is not safe too. Please consider our previous semester marks, project, seminar etc,.

That will be wrong. Previous marks could be misleading. Can we think of transportation and lodging for distance students?

For now a provisional degree certificate can be given or a degree based on average of previous exams can be given and if students are not satisfied with the marks they should be allowed to write the exam after the pandemic is over. It's a simple logical decision.

This poor decision by UGC /MU to conduct exams will set back the country's future!. Why can't some people understand

Cancelling Final year exam is not an option as this is stage where you will opt for higher study or get a job based on merit. It is most likely to be cancelled in any way. Best of luck . Stay safe and write exam

Shewtha, study well the portion is completed till the lock down happened. Full question paper does not carry the questions from the chapters which are not completed. Concentrate on the portion that you completed. Ask the notes from your friends who get internet. No one will discourage at this point. Universities too know how to set question papers. I agree with Mr. Narayan.. All the best.
