Bengaluru: ‘Aarogya Setu app not mandatory’ - Centre to state high court

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 11: Advocate for the union government clarified at the state high court on Friday July 10 that the union home ministry has not issued any order making it mandatory for the people to use Aarogya Setu app.

A division bench of the high court led by Chief Justice A S Oka heard a public interest litigation filed by civil right activist and public interest technologist, Anivar Aravind, on Friday July 10. Advocate who appeared on behalf of the central government clarified this position. The advocate also challenged the petitioner to produce in the court a copy of any order if issued by any government owned organisation.

Advocate for the petitioner said that the central government had clarified during the previous hearing that use of Aarogya Setu app is not compulsory. Still, in the later days, it has made use of this app mandatory, he argued.

After the advocate for the central government clarified the current position, the hearing was adjourned to July 17.
