Chikkamagaluru: DC Dr Gautham Bagadi bans traffic on Charmadi ghat at night

Chikkamagaluru, Jul 9: Frequent landslides on Charmadi ghat road were being reported during the heavy rains of last year disrupting traffic. Though a temporary break wall was constructed, as landslides are feared this year also, as a precautionary measure, Chikkamagaluru deputy commissioner, Dr Gautham Bagadi from last night has banned traffic at night on the road.

The department of meteorology has predicted heavy rains and announced orange alert in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru. And in Shivamogga and Hassan districts on July 9 and July 10. Officials have reported to the deputy commissioner that huge trees are likely to be uprooted together with the landslides along Charmadi ghat road.

In the circumstances, Mangaluru – Tumakuru NH 73 Charmadi ghat road will be closed from Chikkamagaluru district border till Kottigehara every night from 7 pm till 7 am the next day till further orders.
