Bengaluru, Jul 6: In a tragic incident which happened at Yadavanahalli village in Anekal taluk in the outskirts of the city on Saturday, July 4 night, a husband, in a fit of anger, flung his hand at his wife to slap her. But the slap landed on a three-month-old baby of the couple that was asleep in the cradle. Later, it was found that the baby was no more.

Srinivas and Janani couple of Tamil Nadu origin had fallen in love with each other and married a year back. They had a three-month-old girl baby. The husband, in the meanwhile, was angry at his wife of late, as he felt that she was spending a lot of time speaking and chatting on her cell phone.

The couple lived in a rented house in Yadavanahalli village. But Janani, it is said, got addicted to her phone and was always seen glued to it, either chatting to someone or doing other things. Srinivas, a tractor driver, was looking after his wife and daughter well. But he was increasingly becoming impatient with his wife's mobile addiction. He felt that she was whiling away time speaking or chatting with others, instead of taking care of their daughter. Whenever he confronted her, Janani's stock reply was that she was speaking to her younger sister. Srinivas had admonished her on the issue and warned her to mend her ways. Since the last three days, he had not consumed food at home, as he was angry with his wife.

On Saturday night too, Srinivas, on his return from work, directly went to the room and lied down on the bed. As he did not come out to have dinner even at 11 pm, Janani urged him to have food and then sleep. Angered by her behaviour, Srinivas questioned her about suddenly becoming sensitive towards him after ignoring him all these days and swung his hand at his wife in a fit of anger. As he lost balance, the blow landed on the child's head instead of Janani. The baby wailed aloud for sometime before falling unconscious. Fearful, the lady contacted her parents. She then left for her parental home with the baby. On Sunday morning, the baby was taken to the government hospital at Hosur where the doctors said that the baby was no more alive.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the wife, the police personnel of Attibele station have arrested Srinivas. They have registered a case against him and are continuing with their investigation.
