Udupi, Jun 25: Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the district Sadashiva Prabhu, revealed that the district administration has kept 2,891 people including many who came into the state from Maharashtra and other states, in home quarantine. He stated that about 50 percent among them have been sending their selfies every day. He pointed out that this percentage is the highest in the entire state.

"Ward and village level committees have been formed to keep an eye on those in home quarantine. Panchayat development officers, village accountants, and health workers have been visiting these houses every day and conveying information," he stated.

Prabhu said that geofencing app has been downloaded in their mobile phones of those undergoing quarantine. "If they venture out of the house, call centres get information immediately. On that basis, warnings are issued. Till now, warnings have been issued to about 500 persons. Cases have been registered against two persons, who were found to be repeatedly violating the rules," he explained.

Because of strict measures undertaken by the district administration, cases of home quarantine rule isolation have come down significantly. As such, the risk of community infection has also been avoided, he narrated.

Administration to sue lab technician for concealing Maharashtra connection

The district administration has decided to file suit against a lab technician for concealing his connection with Maharashtra. The lab technician had tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday June 24, deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha, revealed that it was assumed that the lab technician who was found infected, did not have any outward contact. However, it has now transpired that he had participated in a programme with some people who had come from Maharashtra. Therefore, he said, a criminal complaint is being registered against him.

"It is compulsory for a person testing positive for the disease to provide all details of his primary and secondary contacts. This information helps us to stop the infection from spreading to the community. No one should cover up any information, failing which they will face a criminal case," he warned. He said that in view of the high number of people returning from Maharashtra, it is not possible to accommodate everyone in institutional quarantine. "We are placing them under home quarantine. Pregnant women, small children, and people aged over 65 and those who have chronic ailments, are being subjected to tests, he stated.

Jagadeesha stated that 91 percent of the officials have been visiting quarantine homes allotted to them and the district has bagged the top slot under this performance in Karnataka.
