Mangaluru: First in district - Corona-positive patient identified with Aarogya Setu help

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 23: For the first time in Dakshina Kannada district, a coronavirus patient was identified with the help of Aarogya Setu app, it is said.

Initially suspicion was aroused about a youth selling fish at Yekkur here of being a coronavirus patient. Later, tests confirmed that he is actually a patient. Surprisingly the fact that he was infected with coronavirus was found by his neighbours even before the health department officials came to know about it. They got this information on account of Aarogya Setu app.

The app issues alert when a person with COVID symptoms is nearby. The neighbours, based on this alert, questioned the youth, who agreed that he had such symptoms. Thereafter, health department officials were alerted. The people are unhappy about the person for concealing his condition.

It is said that the youth aged 27 used to visit Bunder here to procure fish. From there, he used to visit houses to sell fish. Now, those who bought fish from him are worried. During the analysis, the health department staff realised that he got this infection from another coronavirus positive person and that the youth had contact with the said coronavirus positive person.

District health officer Dr Ramachandra Bairy, said that the youth was subjected to test on Sunday. The result is stated to be positive. The department is now trying to find out the details of persons with whom the youth had contacts in the recent past.

Wonderful of this man to install the App and give genuine answers. Its appaling to see some of the comments here. Honesty is being treated like crap. If he hadn't given genuine answers, he could probably be roaming with the infection without others knowing. He has done the right thing. Shame on the people on this platform who have horrible words for him.

This is a big lapse on the part of health authorities. How is a corona positive patient roaming around in the community rather than being in the hospital for treatment?

No, Aarogya Sethu app will only alert based on symptoms. A person installing the app should update his self assessment regularly. But for confirmed positive cases, it will have history of locations for alert.
In this case I don’t see any wrongdoings by the fisherman. He installed app and he was genuine in giving his self assessment updates, health care team should contact everyone who updates symptoms but here the lapse is from health workers.

Then it will be easier to recognize patients before subjecting to test. Unfortunately I could not download the app on my Android phone. The message is my instrument not compatible. If app could recognize the patients it is a boon in this confused world.

No. It will just trace contacts. Testing is done by healthcare department as stated in the news.

You are uneducated and stand so. Just because you don't understand how the App works or that you have be honest while answering it does not in anyway discount the ability of the app for tracking. You lack integrity, intelligence and honesty. Just because its Modi govt. Continue with your ignorance on the functioning of the app.

How can the app inform the neighbours? It only gives indication of an infected person within preset distance starting from 500M. It will not identify any specific person And for an infected person to be found out, that person has to have the Arogya Setu app on his/her phone and carry out regular self assessments. If the app indicates that there is possibility of them being infected then they have to inform the authorities of their own self.

All the people who have downloaded Arogya Setu app on their smart phones are kept anonymous and all collected data is confidential/ accessible by the authorities only.
