Mangaluru: Fibreglass screen in hotel to block coronavirus infection from one customer to another

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 20: It has been nearly two weeks since hotels were reopened after coronavirus lockdown. Their business continues to be dull, even though there are hopes of them getting back to normal situation shortly. Under instructions from the government, a hotel in the city has, for the first time, introduced a system of maintaining social distance between customers sitting face to face in the hotel.

When customers sit facing each other, infection can get transmitted when the affected person sneezes or coughs. To avoid this, the owner of Hotel Gadiyar at Kulur here has fitted a lightweight transparent fibreglass between them in the middle of the table.

Hotel owner Ganesh Shetty said that for the hoteliers, safety of the customers is of paramount importance. He said that if a customer has infection, he can transfer infection even to the hotel staff. Therefore, as a matter of abundant precaution, at the instance of the government guideline, the glass wall has been planned. He said that such a system exists in Singapore and that a few restaurants in Bengaluru would have made this arrangement. He said in the city, he is the first to introduce the system, duly adding that regular customers of his restaurant have appreciated this measure.

A relative had drawn Ganesh Shetty's attention towards the glass screen used in Singapore hotels. Ganesh bought the necessary things and got the glass screens fitted as per his convenience. The glass screens are sturdy and do not break easily. They can be lifted and kept anywhere else as per requirement. As they are transparent, they do not block the view of the customers.

Shetty observed that many hotels have not yet been following this measure, because of which there is risk of coronavirus infection getting passed on. He said that he decided to fix the glass screen to stop such an eventuality even though its cost is quite high.

Shahil sir, those who are paying commercial rent will not be able to survive for long unless they have powerful financiers!
Today Bangude is costing 350/kg (6-7nos); if a hotel charges 90/100 how many can afford?
Wine shop parcel service itself down by 50-60% who will ever go to a bar?
Most owners on rent have kept 3 months rent pending, how will they pay it?
Permanent employees pending pay, how to pay??

Firstly, IMHO hotel industry especially bars is already decimated for a prolonged period!! Already hotel business was down 30-40% after demo and gst!!

With the old rates, no hotelier will be even breakeven! Now with big increase in rates of all commodities like fish, oil, including alcohol (+30%) who will afford to eat out considering the present economic situation where most people are struggling to manage home cooked food!
With the heavy rentals plus the losses of past 3 months, heavy overheads, staff payment, no hotelier would be able to sustain for much long unless he has brry deep pockets & willing risking to pump extra money to start all over again & to recover that money it'll probably take a long long time! To restart a hotel after such a big gsp is like starting from scratch! No bank will come any loan under given circumstances! Provision suppliers will never give credit like before, all one has to buy in cash!
Parcel service fetches water thin margins; unless volumes r huge it's too not profitable!

Only those eateries where most family members work & in their own property can sustain!
This I am posting after personally running a veg restaurant for 3 years!
    All the best!

Please follow the gulf policy. Instead of accomodating them , introduce on-line service, take away a nd door to door service. Keep the kitchen area as well as service area neat and clean. Use bacterial removal accessories while coming to cleaning process.

Utter Nonsense, why we Indians behave like uneducated even after educating , COVID-19 virus can occur by direct contact with infected people and indirect contact with surfaces in the immediate environment or with objects used on the infected person,(e.g., Drinking glass , plates or even table surface). only way to avoid by facemask and Stay at home as much as possible. Avoid touching surfaces such as table tops, chairs, door handles etc.

Please use disposables if you donot have mechanised commercial dish/glass washer.
There is no point in these kind of measures unless you provide Sanitizer before Entry to Restaurants. Sanitize the table /chairs before and after use. Maintain 6 ft distance between each tables. Use gloves for clearances. There are plenty more .
It will be hard to abide by in India .It cost money and customer should be willing to bear the cost to eat out.
    Eat safe,stay safe.

I agree with this fibre glass
    But this will not work.
Only way to be safe is you must improve your immune system that's it.
Otherwise how much protection you take it won't work
    This sickness already in air.
In Kuwait it is coming to normal due to hot weather.
In India it's rapidly increasing because nobody prefer to drink hot water
Nobody has time to take steam inhalation
But we Indian's have time to spend hours in front of TV and mobile
