Mangaluru: Lockdown effect - 900 candidates apply for 13 job vacancies

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 18: Scores of people have lost jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many companies have removed people from their payrolls in order to reduce the workforce. Now the state government has invited applications from eligible candidates for many vacancies under the NAREGA scheme. People who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic are queuing up for these jobs.

Face-to-face interview call was given to candidates for 13 outsourced positions in the city. Over hundreds of people from different parts of the state had arrived in the city seeking jobs. Applications were invited under the NAREGA scheme, for two positions of MIS coordinator, seven posts of taluk IEC coordinators, two posts of taluk technical coordinators and two positions of data entry operators.

More than 900 people had arrived on Thursday, June 18 to the campus of zilla panchayat. It was difficult for officials to maintain social distancing. However, thermal screening was done at the main entrance of the zilla panchayat office itself. Later, the aspirants were sent one by one into the auditorium for the interview.

Job aspirants had arrived from Udupi, Kasargod, Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru and Chitradurga districts apart from Dakshina Kannada. Women also arrived in large numbers. Most of the job aspirants were those who had lost their jobs in the city and had gone to their native places during the lockdown.

One of the aspirants of Bantwal origin said, "I was employed in a private company in Bengaluru. I had come to my native place during lockdown after which I was removed from the payroll of my company. I am not worried about the salary but the job is important."

Corona Pandemic has affected the whole world. Governments the world over are struggling to come out of this grave crisis. Hope both the Central Government and also the State Government chalk out a positive plan of action to deal with the situation. 5248

It is a tragic waste to see educated and capable districts like DK and Udupi having negligent industries. The highly educated or even plain educated have to migrate to prosper. Recently there were lots of comments about drivers and conductors having romance, sadly these are the types of jobs available currently.

Actually 900 is small number. I think lack of advertisement about vacancies resulted in low number of application or else 9000 would have crossed.

Our MP speakes loud about Article 370 , CAA, Triple Talak (which has no real impact on our living) but never utters a word about unemployment, inflation etc. Now the result is in front of you and the worst is yet to come.

MP can only speak in tulu about burning issues...like:
    burning DK,
    1$ = 15 rs
Opening and reopening same flyover etc
Doubt he knows anything about geo-political or economic issues.

We do not yet know the scale of health crisis due to pademic and how India might cope with it. But we do know that the crisis of unemployment is already mind-boggling. The Narendra Modi government must come up fast with a new deal type one time booster to save livelihoods and lives...But sadly as of now the hopes likely appears to be faded.

This is just the beginning of very a very painful & prolonged pain in the economy; thanks to Demo, GST & final nail in the coffin has been hit by CORONA conundrum!!

The middle class & poor will have to hear the brunt! Reverse migration of unemployed migrants in large mps already started from North Karnataka!

More prolonged such a painful situation, its but natural, continues all sorts of illegal activities are bound to start!
