Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 14: It was a sad day for Dakshina Kannada (DK) as coronavirus claimed its eight victim on Sunday, June 14. Also, five new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada, while 21 new cases were detected in Udupi on Sunday June 14. As many as seven and 69 people who recovered were discharged in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts respectively.

In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 43,251 people have been screened so far including 84 on Sunday. A total of 10,905 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which 10,280 have tested negative, and 276 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. Out of these, 122 are currently active. As many as 153 persons have recovered and been discharged, and eight deaths have occurred so far.

Seven patients were discharged from Wenlock on Sunday.

Three male patients aged 50, 52 and 70 are serious and being treated in the ICU.

As many as 230 samples were sent for testing on Sunday. Reports of 94 samples were received on Sunday, out of which five tested positive and the rest negative. Reports of 365 samples are awaited.

In Dakshina Kannada, among the five patients, three are males and two females including one child. The two females are pregnant. As many as three have come from Saudi Arabia, one is a Maharashtra returnee and the lone child has contracted the infection from P-4526, a 43-year-old man who came from Mumbai on May 19 to Udupi and later to Mangaluru after completing his quarantine period on June 6.

As many as 29 persons were admitted on Sunday for observation.

A total of 5,625 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Sunday, 28 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.

Udupi

As many as 21 cases were reported in Udupi on Sunday. The patients are 16 males and five females including two children. Eighteen of them Maharashtra returnees, one each have a travel history of coming from Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh and one patient who contracted the infection from P-5667 who was tested positive on June 8.

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,769 people have completed 28 days of quarantine including 19 on Sunday, and a total of 4,856 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including three on Sunday. As many as 475 persons are currently in home quarantine. As many as six high-risk patients are under hospital quarantine.

A total of 79 people are in isolation wards, including nine fresh admissions on Sunday. Among them, one is a coronavirus suspect, while six have SARI and two influenza-like illness.

As many as 848 people, including five on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 12,907 samples have been collected so far, including 77 on Sunday. Out of them, 11,778 samples have turned out to be negative, including 44 on Sunday, and 103 reports are awaited. As many as 1,025 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district. As many as 789 patients have been discharged including 69 on Sunday, and 235 cases are active. One death has occurred so far.
