Mangaluru, Jun 10: The outpatient department (OPD) of the district Wenlock Hospital here will take some more time to open for public. Therefore, patients who want to avail of the services of this hospital will have to wait.

After Wenlock Hospital was converted into a full-fledged COVID hospital on March 26, all departments including the OPD were closed. Patients were shifted to private hospitals. People who approached this hospital for treatment, were sent to private hospitals with recommendation letters.

Several patients sent to private hospitals had encountered problem in getting treatment there. As such, a demand to reopen the OPD of Wenlock Hospital was made by many. The district administration, for facilitating the people, had decided to reopen the hospital in phases. It had envisaged to open the OPD first.

District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary had said on Thursday last week that the Wenlock Hospital's OPD would be opened in three to four days’ time. However, health department officials confirmed that work is in the preliminary stage and it might take a few more days for the OPD to become functional.

Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Sadanand, said that arrangements are underway to open OPD soon and expected it to begin serving the people in three to four days’ time.
