'14-day home quarantine for Maharashtra returnees, residence to be sealed down' - Minister Sriramulu

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 9: State health minister B Sriramulu, said that it has been decided not to subject Maharashtra returnees to institutional quarantine henceforth. "We will completely seal down the residences of the concerned persons. Once the house is sealed, he has to remain inside for 14 days of home quarantine. We have decided to sue the person if he or she comes out of the house. This decision has been taken at the state level," he explained.

The minister was addressing the media persons on Tuesday June 9.

The minister clarified that the deputy commissioner has been given complete authority over the district concerned. "We will appoint police personnel and home guards and also keep vigil through ASHA and Anganwadi workers. If the concerned venture out, those residing in the neighbourhood should pass information. If the family is too poor, we will provide kit through temple. If they display symptoms of the disease, we will perform tests," he stated.

The minister further clarified that in case of apartment complexes, the entire building will not be sealed, and the flat concerned only would be sealed down.

Sriramulu said that people coming from other states will not have to undergo institutional quarantine. If people coming from other states and countries do not display any symptoms of disease, their throat swab samples will not be sent for testing, he clarified.

Speaking about the allegations of private hospitals treating coronavirus infection and then charging exorbitantly, he said that in such incidents, cases would be registered against the hospitals concerned.

He said he has already promised to supply medical equipment and manpower needed by Karkala and Kundapur taluk hospitals about which they have already sent proposals. He said that his department will undertake measures to see that the work on the district hospital with 250 beds at Udupi will begin immediately.

Replying to questions on the government taking over responsibility of running Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Haji Abdulla Government Mother and Child Hospital at Udupi, he said that six specialized staff have already been provided to the hospital. Noting that there are a number of demands for the hospital, he said that he will soon convene a meeting of local MLA and officials concerned to consider them.

He also said that the government has decided to provide food kits to utterly poor families through muzrai temples.

The minister said that test reports of about 28 cases are expected today. He noted that 330 persons have been discharged from the district and 611 continue to be treated. One among the patients is in the intensive care unit, he added.

large number of people are coming to udupi in the fear of their life, how any one can stop them from coming their own homeland?. who have their own/ancestors property in the district.
they are not foreigners entering illegally to the state. even we accept Bangladeshi illegals and have no problem with their illegal stay. our political parties support them indirectly.
not a single state has refused their own people returning from mumbai in this time of difficult.
state like uttar pradesh accepted around 40 lakh people from mumbai, and delhi.
we have to understand that district like udupi still depend largely on mumbai money.
some people are shamelessly telling them to stay back now,and return when situation become normal, isn't it a joke ?.

Hope there is no more change. We see everyday changes made to different state returnees which is ridiculous. No one is manufacturing this disease locally. Let the rules for all returnees be the same. But when some migrant workers required to be offered instutional quarantine please spare them as they may not have isolated place of their own and they may need help.

Can anybody clarify whether returnees from Saudi Arabia to Mangalore require to undergo mandatory institutional quarantine (Dakshina kannada resident). We are a family of a 5 members (myself, spouse and 3 childrens above 10 year old).
If no institutional quarantine, then we will plan through vande bharath. Our residency permit expiring next week but we still have 60 days grace period to exit the country. We already taken TC from school in first week of march and now awaiting resumption of scheduled flights.

Dear Walter, you will have no institutional quarantine for you provided you have no symptoms of High Fever, Cough and cold on your arrival. You will be advised strict home quarantine and you will be monitored through the Karnataka health authorities.

So please plan your travel without any hesitation of Institutional Quarantine on arrival.

Home quarantine and sealed down is better than institutional quarantine. In institutional quarantine has greater risk of infecting other people. Home quarantine people can take extra care and not mingle with outsider.

The government health care is a big failure. To cover up such failures, the government is changing their policies frequently. None of them perhaps know what is best for the people since most of our leaders were elected based on their money and muscle power! Every decision creates loopholes for corruption.

This is an excellent move. Sealing down is the best thing you can ever do to control the virus.
But DO NOT let any of the family members to go outside and make sure whoever guards the house CANNOT be bribed to let any of the family members go outside.
As you know, this kinds of favour seeking is common in India.
Instead let someone get them the necessary food items they want for 14 days.

If the house has vulnerable members let them be shifted to a relative's house for 14 days.
So even if the entire family gets infected 99% of the time they will be cured automatically.

I am sure Udupi will be corona free by the end of June.
The worst is behind us now.

Time to time there decision changes according to the circumstances. If an elderly person staying alone at home..who will provide food and medicenes which require on regular basis. Sealed-down means totally lock down from outside and only open after 14 days. Clear it first. It's good decision. Instead of sitting at outside let people stay at there home n and than quarantine oneself. Administration do not have much facility to combat the pandemic. For that reason given relaxation much.

The moment its known the person has flouted home quarantine he should be taken to institutional quarantine immediately. This may create some fear of ignoring the quarantine rule atleast.
