Bengaluru, Jun 3: Karnataka deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan has invited chip major, Intel, to set up manufacturing units either in coastal Mangaluru or in the border district of Belagavi.

Dr Narayan, who is heading the Higher Education, Information Technology and Biotechnology, Science and Technology and Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood portfolios, held a video conference with Intel India head and other top executives on Wednesday.

“There is a port in Mangaluru while Belagavi is a few hours from a port in Goa,'' he said pointing out that the coastal city has an international airport while Belagavi had its own airport besides access to Goa airport.

He said both cities have better connectivity through sea or air to export the chips manufactured from Karnataka.

The DCM assured that the state government would ensure ease of business to the tech major to set up their units. 

Intel India country head Nivruti Ray while announcing Rs 1 crore donation to Chief Minister's Relief Fund appreciated the way Karnataka government handled COVID-19. 

Director, Intel business operations Manas Das handed over the relief cheque to Dr Narayan. Intel India top executives Ananth Narayan, Jitendra Chedda, Anand Deshpande, Anjali Rao, vice-president of Vertical Solutions Kishore Ramisetty interacted with Dr Narayan through video conference.
