Udupi, Jun 3: Dr K Sudhakar, state Medical Education minister, informed that government guidelines issued for Bengaluru International Airport will be applicable to Mangaluru International Airport also.
Speaking on the subject, on Wednesday, June 3 at zilla panchayat auditorium, Rajathadri Manipal, Dr K Sudhakar, state Medical Education minister said, "Swab test is compulsory for people who are coming from Mumbai. The guidelines that are followed in Bengaluru international airport are applicable to Mangaluru international airport also. We will make some changes to the same.
"Those who are arriving by flight should register themselves first. They have to follow Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines for this. They should also submit corona negative test report within 48 hours of arrival in the state. This will be applicable to Mangaluru International Airport also.
The number of migrants from abroad and others states are increasing and positive cases are on the rise. Hence, Karnataka government has liberalized quarantine period for seven days, by understanding practical difficulties,” he said.
Government Covid-19 lab in Udupi
Udupi will get government Covid testing lab within a week which can carry out testing of 1,000 samples per day. There will be four RTPCR (Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) in the lab.
Dr Sudhakar visited KMC hospital and appreciated the Covid testing lab in KMC hospital and other facilities.
“Nowadays, the definition of containment zone is changed and it is restricted only to a positive patient’s house and nearby streets,” he said.
When the district administration demanded 2,000 PPE kits, Dr Sudhakar ensured that he will provide the same through the concerned department.
Dr Sudhakar said, "Just three months ago, there were no cases in Udupi. It was under green zone. Due to increasing migrant population, Udupi has gone to the top spot in the state on Tuesday, June 2. People need not worry about increasing numbers, but need to take precautions like using sanitizer, face mask and social distancing in public places.
"Earlier there were two labs in Karnataka, but now there are 64. These labs have conducted 3,31,687 tests and only 3,792 have tested positive for the virus. As much as 85 per cent of people do not have symptoms, 15 per cent have moderate symptoms and 3.4 per cent patients need ICU facility. The government has directed to form a task force committee in rural and urban areas, which will be monitored by the district commissioner and CEO of zilla panchayat. Meanwhile, there will be committees in every ward and booth wise in urban areas.
"In total, 410 cases are reported in Udupi till June 2. There are 345 active cases and 64 are discharged from the hospital so far. India did not exceed one third portion in death cases in comparison to other countries. Test of 9,022 people have been conducted and as many as 2,366 are waiting for results. After seeing the number of positive cases, people are panicking. They are treating infected people as socially deprived and developing a social stigma towards them. Until vaccination or drugs arrive, there is no solution for this. We need to learn to live with corona taking all precautionary measures.
"The Medical department is inventing new methods like plasma transfusion, which has given successful result in one Hubballi patient. We are trying to bring uniform system in Tele ICU. It will function in four shifts and there will be seven divisions in it. Our department is putting honest effort in saving lives by providing good facilities. Hence, we are focusing more on above 65 years age group and will conduct a survey to find out elderly people and focus on the vulnerable group,” he said.
