Lockdown day 69: Dakshina Kannada's corona tally rises to 131, Udupi reaches 260

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 1: On the 69th day of the lockdown, four new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada, while 73 were detected in Udupi on Monday June 1.

As reported earlier, as many as four coronavirus cases were recorded in Dakshina Kannada. Among the four cases in Dakshina Kannada, two are men aged 27 and 50 and two women aged 24 and 45. The 24-year-old woman had come from Bahrain to India and travelled from Pune. She was tested positive at a private clinic. The 27-year-old man works for airlines and had come in one of the special flights on May 20. The 45-year-old woman from Beltangady was tested positive as she is suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). Her source of infection too is being looked out for. The 50-year-old man had travelled from Gujarat.

A total of 8,996 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 8,660 have tested negative, and 137 positive, excluding 10 persons from another district. Out of these, 74 are currently active. As many as 56 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occurred so far.

As many as 49 samples were sent for testing on Monday. Reports of 81 samples were received on Monday, four of which tested positive and 77 negative.

Reports of 193 samples are awaited. As many as 29 persons have been admitted for observation.

A total of 4,579 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Monday, 23 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.

Udupi

As reported earlier, 73 cases were reported on Monday in the district. As many as 61 from the 73 had travelled from Maharashtra, four are District Armed Reserve (DAR) personnel, and three have come from Dubai. The source of infection of rest of the five patients is yet to be ascertained. 

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 3,995 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 126 on Monday, and a total of 4,776 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including seven on Monday. As many as 61 persons are currently in home quarantine.

Altogether, 10 high-risk persons and 43 low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 65 people are in isolation wards, including six fresh admissions on Monday. Among them, one is a coronavirus suspect, while three have SARI and two influenza-like illness.

As many as 719 people, including 10 on Monday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 12,504 samples have been collected so far, including two on Monday. Out of them, 5,628 samples have turned out to be negative, including 570 on Monday, and 6,616 reports are awaited. As many as 260 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 73 on Monday. Sixty-four among them have been discharged, and 195 are active. One death has occurred so far.

Four DAR staff members who are infected are admitted in TMA Pai Covid hospital. Police staff that cuts hair of armed reserve force is also tested positive. A senior police officer in the district who had got his hair cut by him is kept under quarantine as a precaution. DySP office where a meeting of police officials was held recently is sealed. Similarly the center of armed reserve force at Chandu Maidan in the city is also sealed as a precaution. The health department has directed to sanitize the surrounding places.   

Kasargod

Coronavirus infection was confirmed in 14 people including a three-year-old girl in the district on Monday. Twelve among them had arrived from Maharashtra and the remaining two had arrived from a foreign country. Three people among them are residents of Kumble, three from Meenja, two from Mangalpady and one person each from Chemnad, Badiadka, Paivalike, Madhur, Chervathur and Kasargod city.

    Thanks to Mumbaikars for taking Udupi to the 5th spot in the state from bottom of the list with only 3 cases two weeks ago. Most of these mumbaiwalas behaving irresponsibly by roaming around the towns and villages after escaping from quarantine centers. In case of emergency now there won't be beds for local residents in the hospitals.
