Mangaluru: One dead, five injured as car smashes into lorry near Kallapu

Mangaluru, May 31: One person died and five others sustained injuries in an accident between a car and a lorry on the bridge near Kallapu here in the early hours of Sunday May 31.

The deceased has been identified as Chetan, a resident of Kavoor.

The accident took place at around 5 am. It is learnt that Chetan was driving the car.

The car smashed into the lorry from behind.

The car was completely mangled in the accident.

    I can see a few comments talking about curfew, but the main problem is the car driver did not maintain safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Drivers and riders in Mangalore very rarely maintain safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

    The biggest problems for the traffic department, they don't take any action for the trucks or any other vehicles in the middle of the road. Several deaths happened because of this. We can save the lives by clearing these vehicles by taking immediate attention.

    Accident time is curfew time... How did they travel? 5am met with an accident means they must have started early.. For whom curfew timings then? That too early mornings when roads are clear with no traffic.....breaking the rules.....

    Our traffic police department does not punish the idiots who use high beam lights unnecessarily.
    High beam lights causes temporary blindness which results in fatal accidents .Must ban use of high beam lights unnecessary.

    The country where I temporarily reside now requires drivers to turn on hazard light and place big sized white and Red cones 5 to 6 meters away from the vehicle visible to other drivers. When we will have these and other rules strictly in my mother Land????

    Since lockdown is eased, everyday road accidents are killing people like CORONA!
    On average 400/day accidents saved 28,000 lives; compare with the much hyped CORONA pandemic!

    Looks like truck broke down parked on the Road without parking lights or identification if that was the case truck drivers and toll authorities should be booked for negligence

    Looks seemingly straightforward. Lorry had a breakdown and stopped. Speeding car didn't spot the lorry. Sad way to remind people again speed thrills but kills. Drive safe people.
