Bengaluru, May 31: Government of Karnataka is contemplating continuing online teaching for degree classes even after the present situation of coronavirus pandemic eases, reports said.

Educational experts have advised the higher education department that the cost can be reduced considerably by online teaching, according to highly placed sources. Except for network and recharging issues in rural areas, online teaching can be handled very easily. A senior officer of the higher education department said that proposals are being drafted on continuing online teaching as part of higher education.

Right now, online teaching is being carried out in government, private and deemed universities of the state. In addition, online teaching is taking place in government degree colleges and study material is being supplied to the students through some government websites. Sources said that discussions are on to improve this further.

This method will not be implemented at once. Already the admission process and result announcement are done online. Online teaching will be implemented in phases. Even if 20% of online teaching is implemented, it will be very convenient. However, for certain subjects classroom teaching is essential and will be continued, according to the vice-chancellor of a university.

Prof K R Venugopal, vice-chancellor of Bengaluru university opines, "Online teaching is the future method of education. If not on a large scale, it must be implemented to a limited extent for sure. Lot of improvement is done due to the starting of online classes after the coronavirus pandemic. If the government implements this in a more accurate manner, then its benefits will be immense. Online teaching may be a necessity in coming days."
