Mangaluru/Udupi, May 25: It was a sad day for Dakshina Kannada (DK) as coronavirus claimed its seventh victim on Monday, May 4. Three people tested positive in Dakshina Kannada (DK), while 32 new cases were detected in Udupi on Monday May 25.
As reported earlier, a 43-year-old man from Beltangady taluk, who had come to Wenlock with heart ailment, passed away, after which he was tested for coronavirus which came as positive.
Dakshina Kannada also reported three new cases. All of them are males, aged 30, 25 and 55. The 30-year-old and the 55-year-old men returned from Pune and Dombivili in Thane, Mumbai on May 18, while the 25-year-old came from Kurla, Mumbai on May 20.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 42,078 people have been screened so far. As many as 47 people are currently admitted in NIT-K Surathkal quarantine facility. Another 24 are quarantined in ESI hospital.
As many 6,073 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.
A total of 7,025 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 6,195 tested negative, and 70 positive, out of which 37 are currently active. As many as 26 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occurred so far.
Out of the 70 positive cases, 62 are from Dakshina Kannada and eight patients are from other districts.
As many as 138 samples were sent for testing on Monday. Reports of 246 samples were received on Monday out of which 242 tested negative and four positive in which one was of the person who died today.
Reports of 531 samples are awaited. As many as 17 people have been admitted for observation.
A total of 4,113 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Monday, 11 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.
Udupi
As reported earlier, 32 people tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. All of them have travel history to Maharashtra or UAE. A 57-year-old male ASI of the district armed reserve (DAR) force has also been tested positive.
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 3,554 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 41 on Monday, and a total of 4,394 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 50 on Monday. As many as 267 persons are currently in home quarantine and 8,142 are under institutional quarantine.
Altogether, 69 high-risk persons and 15 low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 114 people are in isolation wards, including eight fresh admissions on Monday. Among them, three are coronavirus suspect, while four others have SARI and one influenza-like illness.
As many as 595 people, including eight on Monday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 8,206 samples have been collected so far, including 1,202 on Monday, among whom 41 are coronavirus contacts. Out of them, 3,558 samples have turned out to be negative, and 4,540 reports are awaited. As many as 108 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including a death. Three have recovered, and 104 are active.
Zilla panchayat CEO Preethi Gehlot, on one of the staffs being tested positive, informed that the staff was last in office on May 19 morning and had attended office on May 16 before that. “She was reported to have fever in the morning on May 19. She was sent back immediately and her swab sample was collected by noon. Her table and surrounding area was sanitised on May 19. Thereafter, the entire office was also sanitised. The report of the staff being tested positive was received today. We have not sealed down the office. It is a holiday today. Tomorrow we will keep the office close. We have gotten four high risk contacts checked. Tomorrow morning we have arranged check-up of other primary contacts. As per results of other primary contacts, we will take further decision. All have been advised home quarantine as of now,” she said.
