Udupi, May 25: Udupi superintendent of police (SP) Vishnuvardhan on Monday May 25 dismissed reports about the closure of SP office after some of the cops tested positive for coronavirus.

A section of the media on Monday reported that there was a possibility of the SP office being sealed down and closed for the public over the rise in coronavirus cases among police personnel.

So far, four police personnel, including a district armed reserve (DAR) cop on Monday, have tested positive for the virus.

Dismissing reports about close of the SP office, Vishnuvardhan clarified that the SP office will not be closed, but sanitizing measures have been taken. "I wish to clarify that the SP office will not be closed. We had sanitized the premises two days back in view of large footfall of public for passes and other reasons.

"However, we will sanitize the premises once again and will use as usual. There is no reason to panic," he said.

He further added, "The news is false. In fact we had the idea of sanitizing all police stations and SP office in view of the large footfalls of public during the last few months. It will be done as a precautionary measure in a phased manner.

"Moreover, DAR staff is at the entrance and he will have minimum contact inside the SP office. He mainly works as a guard and sentry," he said.
