Lockdown day 61: Dakshina Kannada corona tally rises by 1, 23 fresh cases in Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 24: One person tested positive in Dakshina Kannada (DK), while 23 new cases were detected in Udupi on Sunday May 24.

As reported earlier, a police constable from Vittal police station in Bantwal tested positive. The 42-year-old police constable who came in contact with a person, who arrived from Maharashtra, hence contracting the infection.

In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 42,078 people have been screened so far, including 67 on Sunday. As many as 48 people are currently admitted in NIT-K Surathkal quarantine facility with eight new admissions. Another 18 are quarantined in ESI hospital.

As many 6,073 people have completed 28 days of quarantine.

A total of 6,887 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 6,182 tested negative, and 66 positive, out of which 34 are currently active. As many as 26 persons have recovered and been discharged, and six deaths have occurred so far.

A press release from the district administration said Kakkebettu in Padavu village and Narikombu in Bantwal are not containment zones anymore.

Out of the 66 positive cases, 60 are from Dakshina Kannada and six patients are from other districts.

As many as 384 samples were sent for testing on Sunday. Reports of 329 samples were received on Sunday out of which 328 tested negative and one positive.

Reports of 639 samples are awaited. As many as 19 people have been admitted for observation.

A total of 4,001 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Sunday, 14 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.

Udupi

As reported earlier, 23 people tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday. Sixteen of them had come from Maharashtra, one each had come from Telangana and Dubai, and three contracted the infection from containment zones. The source of infection of two more people has still not been ascertained.

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 3,513 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 24 on Sunday, and a total of 4,344 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 43 on Sunday. As many as 313 persons are currently in home quarantine and 8,010 are under institutional quarantine.

Altogether, 66 high-risk persons and 15 low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 114 people are in isolation wards, including 12 fresh admissions on Sunday. Among them, four are coronavirus suspect, while three others have SARI and five influenza-like illness.

As many as 587 people, including four on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 7,004 samples have been collected so far, including 1,301 on Sunday, among whom 28 are coronavirus contacts. Out of them, 3,166 samples have turned out to be negative, and 3,762 reports are awaited. Seventy-six confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including a death. Three have recovered, and 72 are active.
