Shivamogga, May 21: An FIR has been filed against Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi at Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district in Karnataka. The basis for the FIR is reportedly the tweets made about PM-CARES Fund by the Congress party's Twitter handle.

The complaint by the advocate Praveen KV alleged that the Opposition, through the tweets made questionable statements against Government of India and PM Modi. Further, he asserted that tweets aimed to provoke people against the Centre.

Following the complaint, FIR was registered under IPC Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (statements conducting to public mischief). It was also identifyied that Gandhi is the handler of the account.

The advocate accused the Congress party of making baseless and false allegations, claiming misappropriation of PM-CARES Fund and cast aspersions on the GOI through tweets. Praveen also stated that he collected all the necessary details related to tweets and account from the handle and filed an FIR.

"They had also said that the Prime Minister was enjoying and going on foreign trips with this fund. This is clearly rumourous news against the Government of India amid the COVID-19 situation. In this regard, I filed a complaint and the Sagar police conducted a preliminary investigation and registered an FIR against Sonia Gandhi, who heads the INC Twitter account," Praveen was quoted in a report by ANI.
