New Delhi, Apr 10: In a new development, PM Modi's Twitter account just got a new follower, the official Twitter handle of the White House. The White House is the official residence of the President of the United States of America. The White House’s official Twitter account follows a total of 19 people which now includes PM Modi. Besides Modi, The White House also follows the Prime Minister’s Office and President Ram Nath Kovind. With this, the PM of India and the President of India become the only non-American politicians the White House follows. Apart from that, the White House Twitter handle follows President Trump, the account of POTUS, vice-president Mike Pence, First Lady, second lady and wife of Pence, the press secretary, assistant to POTUS, the National Security Council. Interestingly, two other accounts followed by The White House are also related to India. They are — The US Embassy in India and the Indian Embassy in Washington.
It was observed that this new move has come in after India released the export of the vital drug hydroxychloroquine. Earlier in the week, President Trump had urged PM Modi to allow the export of anti-malarial drug to the US which he believes is effective in the treatment of coronavirus. New Delhi reciprocated to Trump’s request and lifted the ban on the export of the drug. India manufactures nearly 70 per cent of the world’s supply of hydroxychloroquine.
Grateful for this gesture, President Trump had thanked the PM Modi and praised his strong leadership. President Trump also stressed that the US would never forget the help India extended during the crisis.
“Extraordinary times require even closer cooperation between friends. Thank you, India and the Indian people for the decision on HCQ. Will not be forgotten!” Trump tweeted.
Earlier Israel Prime Minister and Brazil President also thanked PM Modi for the timely aid by the supply of hydroxychloroquine.
