'Delhi has over 2k 'Covid exclusive' beds; PPE kits required urgently'


New Delhi, Apr 2 (IANS): Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said the city has over 2,000 'COVID exclusive' beds of which only 750 are occupied, adding that PPE kits and masks are required urgently for the medical staff.

"For Covid exclusive 1,632 beds available in Delhi government hospitals plus 200 beds available in central government hospitals plus 200 beds available in private hospitals out of which 750 beds are occupied. PPE kit and N-95 masks required urgently," Jain tweeted.

According to the Delhi Health Department, 243 ventilators are available till date in the hospitals, while 3,261 PPE kits are available.

More than 4,63,000 surgical masks and 20,566 N-95 masks were available with the COVID-19 hospitals.

The Delhi government has earmarked six hospitals in the city for dedicated treatment of coronavirus patients, including the Lok Nayak, Guru Teg Bahadur and G.B. Pant Hospitals.

Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital; Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital were also COVID-19 hospitals.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital has reached 293 on Thursday with 141 new patients tested positive and two deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest recorded hike in patient count in a day in the city.

Out of the 280 undergoing treatments, one is on ventilator and five on oxygen while others are stable.
