Mangaluru: Vinaya Hegde inaugurates Indian Welding Society centre

Mangaluru, Mar 18: The Indian Welding Society(IWS) Mangaluru centre was inaugurated on March 16 by N Vinaya Hegde chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) and president of Nitte Education Trust. He, in his inaugural address, stressed the need for venturing into newer areas of technology that could enhance employment opportunities. He mentioned that the stream of Mechanical Engineering has to be restructured with newer technological inputs. The IWS Mangaluru centre is formed with the patronage of N Vinaya Hegde. The office-bearers of the centre have been selected for a term of two-years with Dr Shashikantha Karinka professor and head of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT as chairman; MJ Shetty managing director of Lakshmi Cryogenics as vice-chairman; Sudhir J Shetty CEO of Varun Engineering Corporation as secretary; Gajanan S Hegde deputy general manager of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited as treasurer and additionally nine executive council members. Currently, IWS has a national membership of over 3,600 and 65 life members in the Mangaluru region. 

 

After the inauguration, there was a daylong seminar on the recent trends in welding by experts from IWS. Over 60 delegates had attended this seminar. The installation of office bearers of the Mangaluru Centre was performed by S Prabhakaran vice-president of IWS south zone and general manager of BHEL Trichy, N Rajasekaran; secretary of IWS headquarters performed felicitation of the newly installed office bearers and briefed about different activities of the Indian Welding Society.

Prof S Gopinath gave an overview of the history of the development of the Mangaluru Centre. Prof Shashikantha Karinka welcomed the gathering. Prof Muralidhara and Dr Vijeesh Vijayan introduced the office bearers, Divijesh performed invocation and Sudhir J Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. Melwyn Castelino was the master of the ceremony.
