Mangaluru, Mar 9: Psy Forum in collaboration with Women’s Cell organized Women’s day celebration on March 9. The chief guest was Sanchia Nazareth, a renowned event planner based in Mangaluru. The unique inauguration, the chief guest’s message and a programme depicting women’s issues were the highlights. An exhibition related to psychology and women’s issues covering the aspects of health, women psychologists, gender issues were organized through posters explained by the I year BA students. The programme was compered by Akshaya D Kini.

The chief guest began quoting journalist Faye D’Souza’s words, “Do not ask us if we are planning babies in job interviews. Do not call us slut, behenji based on our clothes. Do not hire men with histories of sexual harassment.” She extended an invitation to the young budding minds to intern, exhibit their talents and assured safety at her company. She ended her talk with a quote by William Golding.

One of the highlights was a tableau depicting the various roles of a woman, followed by a vocal rendition of the Fight Song by Shravya M H, and its depiction in contemporary dance form by Aysha Meyza and Hensita D’Costa. The programme was led by Nashma Khatija and it culminated in spoken poetry on issues of body shaming and self-acceptance.

The principal Dr Juliet CJ, vice-principal Dr Jenis Mary, secretary of the Institute of Social Service Eveleen Benis, associate professor Sandra S Lobo, head, Department of Psychology, guest faculty Verina Joshna, Prof Shobhana N dean (BA), faculty of UG and PG programmes were amongst the audience.
