Mangaluru, Mar 7: Milagres College celebrated its 10th annual day at the Milagres Jubilee Hall on Saturday, March 7.
NRI businessman and proprietor, Aquamater Mangaluru, John Errol Samuel was the chief guest. In his inaugural address, John Samuel said, “Students of current world are very fluent in using technology. They access class facilities at the time of their studies. The modern education system made every student smart and achiever in their particular field.
“But the books-oriented education will not lead 100 percent life of a student. He should learn something extra from outside the class rooms. He or she should think beyond the box which is very near to practical. Time management is very important in life. People who know the value of time only succeed in life. So students should invest their time in creativity and innovations. At the same time, they should also learn to live independently. They should not depend on others to wash their clothes, clean their rooms etc. Self-serving mentality is makes a person disciplined and result oriented,” he said.
In his presidential address, correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, Fr Joseph Lobo said, “Milagres College is in the year of its decennial celebration. The fruitful ten years gave many talents, achievers and intellectuals to the society. Our education is not focused only on text books and class rooms. Today the world requires people who think out of the box. The education system has also changed a lot and focuses on preparing best candidates in this competitive world.”
The programme commenced with a prayer song. Fr Michael Santhumayor, college principal, welcomed the gathering. Cassin Rodrigues, vice principal, presented the annual report of the college for the academic year. The logo of decennial year was unveiled at the event.
Eva Manorama, faculty of commerce and coordinator of cultural association rendered the vote of thanks. The cultural programme commenced thereafter.
Nigel Pereira, vice president, Milagres PPC, Lavina Lobo, vice president, PTA, Alwyn Rosario, Ashwita convenor of College Day, Ivin V D’Souza, CPL, Ian Rodrigues, ACPL and Mahima Ruhi, cultural secretary were present on the dais.
As part of the cultural event, students from various departments performed colourful dances. Fr Michael Santhumayor and Dr Lourdusamy felicitated the students for their achievements in academic, sports and cultural events.
