India can become one of top 3 economies in world: Mukesh Ambani

Mumbai, Feb 24 (IANS): Riding on the power of technology, India has the opportunity to become a premier digital society and one of the top three economies in the world, Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said here on Monday.

"We can argue about whether it will happen in five years or 10 years but it is going to happen, and we will be in the top three countries in the world," he said in a fireside chat with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Ambani said that India has the opportunity to become the most technically enabled society where all the development could be powered by the tools of technology.

The RIL chairman said that empowering small and medium businesses would be key to driving India's growth faster.

"Every small business and entrepreneur in India has the potential to become a Dhirubhai Ambani or Bill Gates. And that is the power that differentiates India from the rest of the world," he said at Microsoft's 'Future Decoded Summit' here.

"I think that the entrepreneurial power that we have at the grassroots is enormous. We have to realise that small, medium and micro enterprises provide 70 per cent of India's employment. They drive 40 per cent of India's exports," he added.

He said that India has transformed tremendously over the past two decades -- from a $300 billion economy in early 1990s to becoming a $3 trillion economy in 2020.

"And I think, I can easily say that the mobile networks in India now are better or at par with anybody else in the world," he said.

About 38 crore people have migrated to the 4G technology platform offered by Jio in about three years, Ambani informed, adding that since the establishment of Jio, average data rate has come down drastically in India -- from Rs 300 - Rs 500 per GB to Rs 12 - Rs 14 per GB.

Congratulating Nadella for his leadership of the organisation, Ambani said that the collaboration between Microsoft and Jio would be a defining partnership of the decade.

RIL last August announced a partnership of its subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm with Microsoft in the technology space, including creation on cloud solutions.

As per the partnership, Jio will leverage the Microsoft Azure cloud platform to develop innovative cloud solutions focused on the needs of Indian businesses.

Jio will set up data centres in locations across India, consisting of next-generation compute, storage and networking capabilities, and Microsoft will deploy its Azure platform in these data centres to support Jio's offerings.

Nadella said that the mission of Microsoft is to help organisations to become independent -- not dependent -- to build their own Artificial Intelligence and other tech capabilities, and tech intensity.

"In the next decade, our main investment will be on making software engineers that organisations hire more productive," Nadella said, adding that Microsoft will build complete toolchain for developers.

The Microsoft CEO said that the increasing rate of digitization of people, places, and things will be the defining secular trend over the next 10 years.

Asserting that Microsoft's differentiated approach across the cloud and edge is winning customers, Nadella said that Microsoft now has 57 data centre regions in the world.

In India, Microsoft has three data centre regions -- Mumbai, Pune and Chennai -- besides a Cybersecurity Engagement Centre in New Delhi.

India can become one of the top 3 economies in the world: Mukesh Ambani.

Mukesh Ambani in his 27 storeyed home...Mukesh Bhai gets up from his bedroom on 15th floor, takes a swim in the swimming pool on 17th floor, has breakfast on the 19th floor, dresses up for office on 14th floor, collects his files and office bag from his personal office on 21st floor, wishes bye to Nita bhabhi on 16th floor, says "see you" to his children on 13th floor, and goes down on 3rd floor to self drive his 2.5 Crore Mercedes to office. Still, then he finds out that he has forgotten the car keys upstairs. But on which level?15th, 17th, 19th, 14th, 21st, 16th or 13th?

He phones all his servants, cooks, maids, secretaries, pool attendants, gym trainers, lift attendants, etc. on all the floors. There are a hectic search and a lot of running around on all the levels, but the key is not traceable.Fed up, after half an hour of frantic search, Mukesh Bhai leaves in a huff in a chauffeur-driven Ikon car. At 3.30 p.m late in the afternoon, it is discovered that four days back, a temporary replacement maid had washed Mukesh bhai's pant and hung it to dry on a string in the balcony of 16th floor, with car keys in the pant pocket. The key had blown away somewhere in the high winds at the 16th-floor level and was never found. This was detected because of Nita bhabhi's habit of checking clothes given for ironing personally. Meanwhile, after three days of the incident, Nita bhabhi with all irritation writ large on her face, complained to Mukesh Bhai asking him where he was roaming till 3 a.m last night Mukesh replied that he was at home all night."Then why did the helicopter land on the terrace at 3 a.m?I was so much worried. I could not sleep the whole night," quizzed Nita bhabhi."Oh, That helicopter". That helicopter came from Germany, sent by Mercedes people to deliver the duplicate car key"... mumbled Mukesh.

Anil Ambani, 60, is the brother of Mukesh Ambani, 62, who’s worth $56.5 billion and is the wealthiest man in Asia. Anil, on the other hand, has seen his personal fortune dwindle over recent years, losing his billionaire status. His Reliance Communications filed for bankruptcy last year.
In 2019, Anil Ambani was caught up in a legal wrangle, when India’s Supreme Court threatened him with prison after Reliance Communications failed to pay to pay 5.5 billion rupees ($77 million) to Ericsson AB’s Indian unit. The judges gave him a month to find the funds, and his brother, Mukesh, stepped in just in time to make the payment.
The lawsuit against Anil Ambani, 60, was filed by three state-controlled Chinese banks, which argue that they provided a loan of $925 million to Ambani’s Reliance Communications Ltd. in 2012 with the condition that he personally guarantee the debt.
Anil Ambani, who was the 6th richest man in the world with a wealth of $42 billion in 2008, has now crashed out of the billionaire club.
Chinese banks demand $2.1 billion from RCom,” Anil Ambani Anil Ambani said, according to a London court filing by banks seeking $680 million in defaulted loans. “My net worth is zero after taking into account my liabilities. In summary, I do not hold any meaningful assets which can be liquidated for the purposes of these proceedings.
How can India be worlds three largest economies when his own brother is bankrupt?

Not India Can but India would have become one of top 3 economies in world if BJP had not come to power in 2014. Now India is not even in US developing nations list let alone becoming top3 economies with miserable GDP numbers and rock bottom exports and high imports and business activities dwindling.
