J&K leader Shah Faesal slapped with PSA


Srinagar, Feb 15 (IANS): Days after the Public Safety Act (PSA) was slapped against former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers - Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, bureaucrat-turned-politician Shah Faesal has been booked under the stringent law, sources said here on Saturday.

The former IAS topper is the seventh mainstream politician of Kashmir who has been booked under the PSA which allows detention from three months to two years without a trial.

Earlier, senior Peoples' Democratic Party leader Naeem Akhtar was booked under the Public Safety Act. National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and senior PDP leader Sartaj Madni, uncle of Mehbooba Mufti, have also been booked under the PSA.

Omar's father, three-time former Chief Minister and sitting MP, Farooq Abdullah is already booked under the PSA and lodged at his Srinagar residence, which has been designated as a sub jail.

    It is rare that those who have served the nation as members of parliament, chief minister of a State, minister in the Union, and have always stood by the national aspirations of India, are now perceived as a threat to the State.

    A recent report by J&K Coalition of Civil Society (J&KCCS) and Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons’ (APDP) said 662 persons were booked under the PSA in 2019.

    Nearly year are Article 370 revoking, the PM Modi's government claims of Kashmir is returning to normalcy seems to be doomed again.

    Once considered paradise on earth, has sharpest drop in tourism, no internet, no free movement, no medicine in the hospitals for critical care, no trade.

    Only last European Union delegation has visited the valley and recommended to lift internet cub and release the illegal detention of the leaders. Now the government does exactly opposite.
