Last Game in 2019 PSL Is a Great Intro to 2020 Season

Jan 27 (Media Release) : Is there anything that sports enthusiasts in Pakistan love more than cricket? Many residents of this country wouldn’t have a confirmative answer to this question. Simply put, cricket is big in Pakistan and people in this country love watching every single game of the national team, as well as the Pakistan Super League matches.

Apart from being popular in Pakistan, the PSL is also very well received in India. Those who read west coast India cricket news often follow PSL closely and monitor all the matches that take place.

Speaking of matches, there is one most important sports event in Pakistan that doesn’t involve the national cricket team — the Pakistan Super League finals. Let’s take a quick overview of the last match of the previous PSL edition and see how it affected the upcoming PSL. Read on!

Quetta Gladiators Meet Peshawar Zalmi

The PSL playoffs saw Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi proceed to the final game of the 2019 PSL. The match took place on March 17, which was the day when the league was officially closed for the season.

The sheer popularity of this event was noticeable in the fact that 20% of the tickets were sold online on February 20, which was actually the start of the season. More than 40,000 cricket lovers appeared at the National Stadium in Karachi in order to support one team or the other (or just watch some top-notch cricket moves).

In the end, it was Quetta Gladiators that won the 2019 edition of the PSL by 8 wickets. The final score was 138/8/20 overs for Peshawar Zalmi and 139/2/17.5 overs for Quetta Gladiators. The umpires were Ranmore Martineszt and Ahsan Raza.

Mohammad Hasnain received an award for being the man of the match, as he proved to be vital for his team.

What to Expect from 2020 PSL?

The 2019 PSL was the fourth edition of the league, meaning it’s fairly young — it was created in 2015. Since it has been providing us with some great cricket, it’s only natural to assume that the 2020 edition will attract even more cricket lovers from Pakistan and beyond. In other words, we can expect that PSL 5 is going to be even more interesting, as the teams are becoming more competitive than ever.

The Pakistan Cricket Board decided that the official start date for 2020 PSL will be February 20, and the league will last until March 22. Just like last year, this 2020 cricket competition will follow a double round-robin format before proceeding into the playoffs. A total of six PSL teams will take part in it, and those are Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators.

A total of 34 games will take place during the season, all of which will take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s National Stadium, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and Multan Cricket Stadium.

February 20 is getting near, so grab your favourite team’s jersey and tune in at the start of the season to support it. Cricket in Pakistan is more popular than ever, but it’s not only Pakistan this time — numerous cricket lovers outside of this country are getting more interested in PSL, especially the countries where cricket is already a popular sport.

Therefore, if you happen to live outside of Pakistan, make sure to check out how to watch this sport by finding channels that have the licence to broadcast PSL games in your country.
