Goa BJP to start statewide awareness campaign on CAA

Panaji, Dec 24 (IANS): The Goa BJP will soon start a statewide campaign to create an awareness about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in order to prevent people from being misguided on the issue, a BJP lawmaker said on Tuesday.

"We will conduct meetings in constituencies right from the booth level upwards to make people aware of the factual situation about the CAA, so that they do not end up being misguided by others," BJP MLA Subhash Shirodkar told reporters, after a meeting held at the Chief Minister's official residence here.

The implementation of the new citizenship law as well as the likely implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) has triggered a deadly wave of nationwide protests, with the opponents of both the laws terming them anti-minority and violative of the Indian Constitution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have however said, that the CAA and NRC are not aimed at targetting the Muslim community.
