Udupi, Dec 14: The first Tulu Shivalli Brahmins' World Convention was inaugurated at Rajangana, Sri Krishna Math here on Friday December 13 with a grand cultural programme.

The convention will be held for three days.

After inaugurating the programme, Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji in his address said, "This is a good programme. Shivalli Brahmins are the pillars of the mantapa. If any of the pillars loses its balance, the entire mantapa will collapse. Likewise, the convention is organized to unite Brahmins, to spread our rich culture. Every individual is important to build a strong community, which is made possible through people's cooperation."

Sri Raghuvarendrateertha Swamiji of Sri Bhimanakatte Math said, "Today, Tuluva culture is on the decline, and such conventions will help to resolve problems. There is a need for unity to achieve the goal. Madhwacharya contributed a lot to Tuluva culture. Hence, this convention will help to understand his importance. Most of the people know about Tuluva history. This convention has been organized to eradicate ignorance. For the culture of Brahmins to be carry forward to the next generation, the convention plays an important role."

On the occasion, junior seer, Sri Vidyarajeshwarteertha Swamiji; president of the convention, Ramdas Madannaya; general convener, M B Puranik; executive president, Manjunath Upadhyaya; and PRO of Palimar Math, Shreesha Bhat Kadekar were present.

One should respect mother tongue first - Pejawar Swamiji

Sri Vishwesha Theerta Swamiji who blessed the event spoke on how Madhwacharya principles have influenced the western world and gained their respect. “One should give special priority to mother tongue. There are many sub associations in a community. Let this not be a reason for divide. Instead, let there be support for each other. All associations should unite to strengthen Hindu society. Let us carry forward same knowledge and noble work to next generation,” he said.

He further advised, “All Brahmins who wear ‘yajnopavitha,’ should recite Gayathri Mantra every day, because it will make us strong and energize our body. Let this Mantra become a world song.”

Sri Vidyadheesha Swamiji said, “Tulu means full (over loaded). It has over a thousand year history. We have given our Tulu ‘lipi’ and language to Malayalam. This should be revived and we should learn our language. Brahmins are soft and adjusting in nature. They are self-reliant. This is the main reason why Brahmin community is not getting due recognition as expected.”

Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji said, “Today, hotel business is losing its existence and young generation are leaning towards ITBT companies. Brahmins have religious and spiritual responsibilities too and should not sideline the same when they opt other careers.”

M B Puranik welcomed the gathering and U K Puranik, Mysuru, proposed vote of thanks.

Sri Vidyasagara Theerta Swamiji presided over the religious convention session. He stressed on the role of parents in teaching Brahmin culture, traditions to their children and need to protect and cherish it for the next generation.

“Adjusting is ok to an extent, but we should not give up originality (own-feeling). Today’s children do not have knowledge of Kannada. We are giving importance to world languages for the purpose of profession,” he said.

Harikrishna Punanooru, former president of KSP, Sripati Upadhyaya, Vastu expert, Satynarayan Achar, principal, Poorna Prajna Vidya Peeta, Bengaluru, Shiva Prasad Tantri, Ramadas Bhat expressed their views on various subjects.

Mudrady Vasudev Bhat, Bakremath extended welcome and Prof Sri Subrahmanya Joshi, president, Puttur Brahmin Zone, rendered the vote of thanks.
