Mangaluru, Dec 10: Former minister and MLA U T Khader, rued the fact that people are hesitating from investing in Ira industrial area even after some industrialists applied for land there, as some industries functioning there had closed down. He was addressing a press meet at Ullal on Monday December 9.

"The gross domestic product (GDP) of the country has slipped. Therefore, it may take some time for the industries to come up at Ira. In the past, heads of ten pharmaceutical companies had visited the area but had dithered from investing here, duly citing lack of proper road connectivity. Thereafter, a good road has been laid to the area. In the recent past, there are complaints that youngsters are using this road to have fun and engage in other activities by roaming around in their motorbikes. We therefore, propose to close the road by installing gates, and by posting watchmen," he explained.

Khader also said that the inspection bungalow at Mudipu will be developed into taluk level building and there are plans to turn it into a tourist spot. He said that the issue has already been taken up with the government.

"Announcement about creating Ullal taluk has already been made. We have identified five acres of land at a single spot for building revenue, regional transport office, taluk panchayat office etc at a single plot," he explained.
