Mangaluru, Nov 25: Veteran Yakshagana Bhagavatha Patla Sathish Shetty will file a defamation case against Kalladi Deviprasad Shetty and his team for insulting him during the Yakshagana programme that was held at Car Street of Kateel temple premises on November 23.

Addressing media here on Monday, November 25, Patla Sathish Shetty said, "Devi Prasad Shetty has falsely alleged that they had informed me in advance not to do Bhagavathike and indiscipline is the reason behind keeping me out of Kateel mela. Harinarayana Asranna also supported him. They are hatching conspiracy to defame me.

“Devi Prasad Shetty even claimed in a press meet that people demand Patla Sathish Shetty to perform in the mela, which indicates that they have problem with my popularity. Whenever Kalladi Devi Prasad Shetty asked me to perform in any mela, I used to obey his decision. Once Devi Prasad Shetty asked me to stay away from Kateel mela and perform as a guest Bhagavatha in any of the melas. I have never gone against the decision of the temple management in the last 19 years of my service and there was not a single complaint against me so far.

"During the day the incident took place, I had informed some of the main bhagavathas about my visit. Everyone knew that I would come and perform as I was in touch with the other Bhagavathas during the day of the incident. All of a sudden, Devi Prasad Shetty asked me to leave the stage. I have not been informed orally or in written format that I was removed from the Kateel mela. This is a pre plannned and intentionally hatched conspiracy and the man behind the conspiracy is Supreeth Rai, a relative of Devi Prasad Shetty. I had no expectations or demands. An artiste should not be insulted in this manner. It is equal to death of the artiste.

“Even some of the artistes had complained to the deputy commissioner over the harassment faced at the hands of the management over salaries, on November 22 in the meeting that was conducted at Kateel.

"The court had also ordered the deputy commissioner to supervise the activities of Yakshagana mela and review the accounts of Mela every 15 days. If Devi Prasad took such a decision, in which I was asked to leave the Yakshagana performance stage, it is violation of court. Did they seek permission from the deputy commissioner? I have also brought this incident to the notice of deputy commissioner and superintendent of police. I am even ready for CBI enquiry in this case and also ready to face any debate in any state and national media,” he said.

When asked about his next step, Patla Sathish Shetty said, "I need to think and consult my seniors and take decision.”

When asked about high court's decision, Patla Sathish Shetty said, "When an artiste goes through such insults and harassment, I agree with the decision of the high court.”

When asked about temple management allegations of Patla favouring to auction the troupe, Patla Sathish Shetty said, "I deny such allegations and I am not at all involved in favouring the auction of the troupe.”

Kateel "Mela" generarte crores of rupees every year. Why is it that Devi Prasad Shetty gets to run the melas year after year? Why are there not competitive bids periodically? How much money is generated being deposited to Temple accounts? Why are the Yakshagana artists are living in pathetic condition? Why are paid so little? Why are n't there proper insurances, pensions for poor artists?

It is obvious that there is a vested interested group working, a powerful cabal , operating there. This could not be going on for so long without the involvement of some government officials. One hopes the concerned Minister & DC to take transparent action & restore prestige of the holy place.

Many people have expressed their personal, individual views, opinions in this platform in connection with Patla Sathish Shetty's controversies. To be frank,I am neither a fan nor a follower of Sathish Shetty.I normally read article about him or watch some of his programes either in Youtube or facebook. Thus I became a fan of him but not hardcore fan.
Now the problem here is insult-According to my opinion insulting a man in any capacity or any celebrity in front of the public or any audience is as similar to the murder of the person. Here it seems, may be due to jealousy, vengeance or any personal reason.Sathish Shetty should not have been asked to step down once he occupied his adorable seat of Bhagavathige.Issue, problem could have been sorted out through discussion amicably instead of spilling the venom and allowed to go viral in social media.Still there is an ample scope for an open discussion involving senior artists, people,Management of Kateel Mela and put an end in the best interest of Kateel Mela Management, devotees and fans of Sathish Shetty.Mistakes can be committed by anyone but admitting and correcting it is a big thing.

    Dear Shekar
If an individual feels he is bigger than the organization it is not good. Management already informed him in Chowki not perform on stage. In chowki all other artistes also there for witness.

It is wrong if a successful person has an attitude issue. No matter how popular you are, always follow the rules and discipline of the organization you associated with and do not ignore your senior's advice.

Nobody outside the Kateel Mela group knows actual incidents took place inside. But, it is wrong to send a performer back from the stage, in front of the audience. Management could have waited to finish the Yakshagana and then both parties could have sat across and discussed if any issues.

Yes, I agree, despite what has happened or not happened backstage, since he already climbed up the stage, even I feel in front of people he should not have asked to step down. By doing this Its a remark and legacy of Kateel Melaas its a cheap showdown they did. After his performance they could have formally told him with a letter or could have informed it in temple or press that we don't need your services. This way there no insult to him and the Mela itself. They shouldn't have washed their dirty Lenin in public.

It seems after all this so called insult Patla was in Mumbai yesterday for a Buntsangha event when the Mela is on the go. He plate is full compared to other artists for whom Yakshagana is their bread and butter. Also Patla's statement that "by doing so they don't ask me to get down, they asked Kateel GOdess only to get down". What does this mean? Patla is comparing himself as Kateel GOdess?????. Since he is popular and of he doesn't have time for full time Bhaagavathike, he can do guest appearance in any of the Mela he chooses including Kateel if the organizers are interested and can afford him. Kateel Mela was there before him also, with him, will be there in future also. No one should think they are bigger than the organization itself. By ganging up other artisists and doing protest for individual ego will only spoil the legacy of Yakshagana, that too a Mela that's revered and booked years in advance for their thirugaata.

Patla Satish Shetty said that he was not given prior message by Owner NOT to go..If it is true, Patla Satish Shetty is right , Whether he is a celebrity or not ,it is a different question..

One should be given prior notice, you can't insult someone on the stage..It is Wrong..Wrong..Wrong..

If there is some issue with him, then Management or Owner should have solved in office room and NOT on stage in front of public...Pure street fight or Goondagiri from Owner side..

Patla is a celebrity now. Involved with his foundation works, popularity as Sandlewood singer etc, perhaps started started getting a feeling that he is bigger than the organization itself as he has his own fan base.

His recent statements and stand against Kateel Yakshagana management says so. He may be encasing his popularity. When he was asked not to go to stage, he could have confronted the manager there it self or complained to whatever authority.

Why he went to stage despite telling not to do so. Also how can he come as guest and go, he was not available for Gejje pooje also or any other formalities.

Every organization should have a set of rules to be followed and there should be a boss to make that rules. If an individual feels he is bigger than the boss and organization itself, it's wise to come out and start your own, rather than confronting the boss about how to run it.

This is just my assumption based on how things are unfolding since some days.

by the way he speaks and acts, I also feel that patla is on the wrong side, though it is none of my business.

Kateel Mela is very renowned and I hope the temple administration and manager will resolve this suitably.

nobody could have put it better than you- you nailed it

    Artist being controlled by Director
Now Artist wants to be the Director

    Only 2 ways
form your own troupe or fall in line with the organization

SB well said . He is not bigger than Organisation. Now he is thinking he is a big celebrity . On that day he not even came for Gejje Pooja. In Mela Bhagavatha is like Captain, he is not following melas rules and regulation. He may be encasing his popularity. Indiscipline is the reason behind keeping him out of Kateel mela.
