Goa: 64-year-old Russian tourist drowns off Arambol

Panaji, Nov 18: A Russian tourist, who had come for a holiday along with his wife, drowned off Arambol beach on Sunday evening.

The cause of death is not yet known, though it is suspected that the 64-year-old suffered a stroke while swimming. The couple went to the beach in the evening and he ventured into the water for a swim. Around 5 pm the deceased’s wife approached lifeguards and said that she could not spot her husband. The lifeguards spotted a male body floating in the water less than 50 metre from the shore.

This is the sixth drowning death reported in Goa over the last one month, while 280 people have been rescued by Drishti, the state’s lifeguard agency.
