After criticism, minister Jagadish Shettar cancels 11-day foreign trip

Daijiworld Media Network: Hubballi

Hubballi, Nov 2: After receiving criticism on planning an 11-day foreign trip, minister of large and medium scale industries Jagadish Shettar has cancelled his plan.

The minister told reporters in Hubballi on Friday that he is not craving for foreign trips and has cancelled the same in view of the flood situation in Belagavi and other parts of North Karnataka.

According to sources, Shettar was scheduled to travel from November 6 to 17, as he had received invitations from China and United Kingdom to attend an investors’ meet.

He was supposed to visit China for six days and United Kingdom for four days to attend the Corporate Governance and Global Business Meet in London.

Along with Shettar, eight senior officials including commerce and industries principal secretary Gaurav Gupta, were supposed to attend the meet.

However, what irked people was Shettar’s wife Shilpa Shettar was also part of the contingent.

“The tour was planned after receiving an official invite from China and the United Kingdom for investors meet. It is my duty to bring more investment to State as I am the industries minister. This could have been a good opportunity but I have cancelled the same in wake of floods,” Shettar who is also the district-in-charge minister of Belagavi said.

Shettar further clarified that while flight tickets for him and eight other officials were sponsored by state government, he had already proposed to bear the expenses of his wife’s ticket.

Like Cricket players, BJP politician wants entire families Dada, Dadi, Chacha, Chachi, Mama, Mami, and pados ki aunty in every foreign business trips.

These days every BJP leader wanted to become Globetrotter like PM Modi.

Around 103 taluks in 22 districts of the state have been badly hit with over 6.9 lakh hectares of crop loss. Around 75,317 houses are damaged due to the rains. Over 992 livestock were also killed due to the heavy rains in the state and 10 people are still missing. The death toll in Karnataka's first flood fury crossed to 76.

    1. If 'Digital India' is the future of India, why the minister has to travel on taxpayers' expenses?
    2. Why the video conferencing can be held to save the money which can be used for flood relief?

The BJP government has no money for flood victims. But the personal tour package has enough money?

According to reports in other leading dailies, Shettar's two sons and their wives were also part of the junket. Now that the free holiday is cancelled how about refunding the cost of the Chinese/ British visas and the cancellation charges on the tickets to the government treasury.

Can all our Ministers, MPs , MLAs, all Political Babus who fight for power and seats, be brought down to reality. Make them drive via city's worst hit roads, farmers places, flood hit areas. Can they ever discuss about how do we improve People's lives rather than their own lives.
This is applicable to any Political party, Congress or BJP, whichever party you are in.
PM is busy touring outside India, not even bothered to know ground realities in our country. Busy doing self promotion rather than looking at people's welfare.
I have a request to PM, sir please visit Mangalore soon, so that our roads get repaired on a war footing speed.
Politicians of all parties are ever ready to pack bags and go on a Foreign Trip, saying official but in reality - Nothing Official about it. Except looting our hard earned Tax Money. It could be a fun trip or even a medical trip, we are stripped off our tax treasuries and they enjoy themselves.
    Incredible India, Meraa Desh Mahaan.
    God Save us..!!

People vote wrong people and then ask why isn't our country improving. People give fake promises, make money enough for their next 100 generations and escape, all in just one term. So imagine the greed tgese politicians have to be wanting to get re elected again and again. We all know how much of investment come in after such meets, focus on providing homes and basic food plus water to your constituency Sir, no investment comes after all these tours, atleast let's focus on the ones who genuinely need care.
