Udupi: Milagrean Kite Festival enthrals students

Udupi, Nov 1: With an aim to allow students to enjoy nature and to gain inspiration for life from nature, the management of Milagres English Medium School Kallianpur organised ‘Milagrean Kite Festival’ near here on Thursday, October 31 as part of special programmes of Ruby Jubilee Year celebrations of the school.

The Kite Festival was inaugurated by well known Carnatic vocalist and alumnus of the school Gargi Shabaray. Fr John Bennet of Pilar Minor Seminary presided over the programme in the absence of correspondent Dr Fr Lawrence C D’ Souza. Felciana Lewis, secretary of the parish and managing committee member was the guest of honour.



In her speech, chief guest Gargi applauded the school for its innovative event like this to make students enjoy coming to school. She said that such events as these also carry a value and message for life. She said that the Kite speaks to every child calling all to emulate its life – to be strong and soar high in spite of all the troubles, winds and difficulties. It calls all students never to break the hold of our roots. She further added that for the kite, sky is not the limit. It likes to
fly and move far away never worried of the limit. It just trusts the kite flier who gives freedom to it.It never gives up and colours the sky and makes everyone happy. She sang two Carnatic songs for the spectators. She relived her school memories and thanked her teachers.

Fr John Bennet in his presidential remarks invited the students to enjoy the kite festival and to try to aim high like the kite and find the fruits of success in life by being hard working.

This day was indeed a memorable and promising one. Competitions were held in four categories each for primary and high school separately - Best Kite, Theme Kite, Highest Flying Kite and Creative Kite. Students displayed the kites they had prepared and flew them with joy.

Wilma, co-ordinator of Kindergarten, Nelson and Pallavi Bhat, co-ordinators of Kite Festival, Veera D’Silva, headmistress, Fr Lancy Fernandes SJ, principal, and Michael Menodonsa, PTA president, were present on the dais.

Shweta Menezes compered the programme. Netri from 2nd std welcomed the gathering and Volita proposed the vote of thanks. The event ended with the kite flying in the kite flying in the afternoon and distribution of prizes by Sumana, chief guest of the valedictory programme.

This year being the 40th year of the birth of Milagres Kindergarten school several innovative programmes of fun and frolic have been planned to making learning at school as fun and also to make this jubilee year a memorable one. It was a festive day as children enjoyed seeing kites flying high over the blue skies. It was also a day out of the routine of classes.
