Udupi: Hundreds of villagers voluntarily participate in Karaseva

Udupi, Oct 21: Hundreds of villagers and devotees participated in the Karaseva at Sri Jayadurgaparameshwari temple, Kannarpady on Sunday, October 20 for the comprehensive renovation of the temple.

According to ancient archives, it is believed that this temple is about 5,000 years old and that it was in existence even before the 16th century. The temple is located to the northeast of Udyavar. On either sides of the door, idols of Lord Mahaganapathi and Lord Subrahmanya were installed recently.

“The comprehensive renovation work is taking place at a cost of Rs 15 crore, which includes complete renovation of Suttupauli, Vasantha mantapa, Raja gopura, Agra sabhe, Theertha mantapa, Naga brahma sanctum, nandikeshwara, Rakteshwari, Brahmasthana and wedding hall,” said Krishnamurthy Acharya, president of temple management board.

Acharya further said, “The local people and devotees have come voluntarily to join their hands in shifting wooden pillars and also for cleaning works. Though it is Sunday, people of all age groups have participated happily in temple cleaning works. It is a day-long service, which is offered to Goddess Matha. The Renovation committee has planned to get completion of renovation work before March 2020. Brahmakalashotsava ritual will be held on March 30, 2020. The construction work will get completed in the next five months.”

This is the one of oldest temple in Udupi and one of the four ancient Durga temples surroundings Udupi Sri Krishna temple. The renovation works are undertaken under the guidance of Shrisha Thantri.

A renovation committee is formed for this purpose. Muralidhar Ballal, president of renovation committee of the temple was present. Around 300 people have joined their hands in cleaning the temple and dismantling of the roof.

    Thanks Kota Shrinivas Poojary for sanctioning money for renovation of old temples. We need temple in chape chape. Good to be seen villagers themselves conducting work of temple.
