Abu Dhabi: Implementation of toll postponed from Oct 15 to Jan 1

Abu Dhabi, Oct 14: The capital has postponed the implementation of toll gates from Tuesday, October 15 to January 1, 2020. The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DOT) announced the decision on Sunday.

Motorists across UAE were in a state of confusion as there was no clarity on the implementation date and they were supposed to create an account to register their vehicles and then top-up for payment. The owners of vehicles registered in the capital were yet to receive SMS with details of their automatic accounts. Adding to technical snags, one of the four toll gates on Mussafah road had to be relocated due to faulty placement.

Abu Dhabi Government Media Office on Sunday evening tweeted from his official handle the changes in the implementation date along with some fee exemptions and monthly caps. The tweet reads, "@AbuDhabiDoT announced that the Abu Dhabi Traffic Toll Gate System will commence on 15 October on a free of charge basis until 1 January 2020. This trial period will provide residents more time to plan the best travel times and explore transport alternatives."
