Mangaluru: Inauguration of ‘Godrej Disha Center’ held at St Aloysius ITI

Mangaluru, Oct 12: New technological inventions are changing the society and environment. As technology is advancing with the speed of light, the upgradation of training facilities to match the current trends becomes vital. To provide technical training at par with industrial requirements, St Aloysius ITI has entered into the collaboration venture with M/s Godrej appliances. Under this venture, M/s Godrej Appliances have set up ‘Godrej Disha Center’ in the institute. Inaugration of this centre was held on Friday, October 11 at St Aloysius ITI Auditorium. This is the fourth collaboration venture of St Aloysius ITI with industries. The institute already has tie-up ventures with M/s Hyundai Motor India Ltd, M/s TATA Motor, M/s Jaquar& Company Ltd. The programme commenced by inaugurating the Godrej Disha Center by Fr Dr Leo Dsouza SJ, former director of the institute and was blessed by Fr Dionysius Vaz, the rector of St Aloysius Institutions.



The formal programme commenced by a welcome dance performed by sewing technology students. Later, Roshan D’souza, principal escorted the dignitaries to the dais. Fr Cyril D'mello SJ, director of the institution extended a cordial welcome to all.

Y N Salian, principal, Ramakrishna Poonja ITI, Mulky was the chief guest and the programme was presided over by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, rector, St Aloysius Institutions. The other dignitaries on the dais were Ravi Bhat, national head-service M/s Godrej; Shakeel Jamadar, national head - training and Quality M/s Godrej; Gregory Paulose, Regional Service Manager South M/s Godrej; Dr F Joseph Stanley, general secretary SKIP; D Ramachandran, associate vice president, Zonal Business Head appliances Sale M/s Godrej and Fr Melwyn A Lobo SJ, principal, Gonzaga School.

The programme was formally inaugurated by untying a bunch of Areca nut flowers.

Addressing the gathering Ravi Bhat, said, “Aloysius college has its pride and name. Students coming out of the college have a good calibre. This collaboration of Godrej is our 24th industry partnership. We should maintain this centre of excellence for the environment and a social cause". He also said that the students who are technically skilled will be employed in any industry.

Dr F Joseph Stanley, in his speech said, “In our daily life, it is difficult to get the technicians who are well versed with the modern technical skills. Hence, to train the youth in modern technology and help them to be employed the collaboration with the industry is more important". He also thanked all the dignitaries of M/s Godrej Appliances. Speaking about SKIP, he said about 220 private Technical institutes collaborated with SKIP. St Aloysius ITI is ranked in top 10.

The chief guest Y N Salian, principal, Ramakrishna Poonja ITI, Mulky, Tapovana was felicitated during the program.

The felicitation programme was conducted by Noel Lobo, training officer. Receiving the felicitation, the chief guest said, “St Aloysius ITI is the best institute in Karnataka which is in the heart of the city with very good infrastructure. The NCVT certificate given to the students has a value in every country.” He inspired the students by giving example of Dr Abdul Kalam who had respect to the elders and urged the students to respect their elders and teachers.

Agreement copy of the collaboration venture was handed over by Ravi Bhat, Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, and Fr Cyril D’Mello SJ. 'Authorised Training Provider' certificate was handed over by Shakeel Jamadar, national head-Training and Quality.

Shakeel Ahmed, addressing the gathering said, “India is young country which is rich in human resources. Industries are growing yet there is unemployment, this is due to lack of skill. If the students are technically skilled they will be employed in any industry.”

In his speech, Gregory Paulose, regional service manager-South, said that the Godrej Disha centre setup in MRAC lab would be very beneficial to the students and they should make the best use of this facility.

In the presidential address, Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ said, “The collaboration with the industry is to give the best to the students. As M/s Godrej Appliances believes in quality, St. Aloysius strives to give quality education and technical skills to the students". Talking to the students he said, "You must find the answer for why have you born? When you come to know the answer, your life will become meaningful and filled with divine grace.”

Sharana Gouda, technical trainer, Bengaluru branch and Arun Pinto, proprieter- Pinto Aluminium were felicitated for their support in setting up the ‘Godrej Disha Center’.

The stage programme was followed by a cultural programme. Second year students of MRAC trade presented a beautiful folk dance.

Roshan D Souza, principal of the institution, rendered the vote of thanks. Robin Vas, junior training officer, conducted the programme. Sweets were distributed to everyone.
