New Delhi, Oct 11: IRCTC's Majestic Rajasthan Deluxe which was launched to provide a romantic getaway to couples on Karva Chauth has been cancelled owing to poor turnout. Of the 78 seats, only two couples signed for the five-day Rajasthan tour.
The train was available for only married couples with special services like a shower cubicle, a seating area with single-seater sofas and foot massages. The promotional offer included departing from Safdarjung station in Delhi on October 14 to visit different sites in Rajasthan like Jaisalmer Fort, Patwon ki Haveli, Gadisar Lake, Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Amber Fort and City Palace till October 18.
In its promotional message, the IRCTC said, "This Karva Chauth, give your wife a special gift which she will remember for ages." Officials believe the low turnout could be because of the sky-high fares - Rs 1,02,960 per couple in AC first tier and Rs 90,090 per couple in AC 2 Tier.
The officials stated that the passengers were assured free insurance worth Rs 10 lac each. As per sources, the two couples who signed up will be given a refund.
Karva Chauth is an age-old Hindu tradition where a wife fasts from sunrise to moonrise for the longevity of her husband. This year Karva Chauth falls on October 17.
